General Job Information This position is located in the Health & Human Services Department, Service Design and Engagement, Public Services Division at the DC Public Library (DCPL). The Health & Human Services Department focuses on providing enhanced library services, social services, and public health services to the District's most vulnerable residents and to support staff in their work with these patrons. The Department does this using trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches to serving patrons. For the past five years, DCPL has offered peer support to customers experiencing homelessness, mentalhealth, and substance use challenges. Currently, three DC Department of Behavioral Health Certified Peer Support Specialists, led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, provide emotional support and referrals to services to DCPL's unhoused customers and those with co-occurring disorders.
The MentalHealth Specialist is part of an interdisciplinary team that includes the Health & Human Services Manager, the Health & Human Services Assistant Manager, and three Certified Peer Support Specialists. Responsibilities include providing a wide variety of social work supports, focusing on making connections with customers inside DCPL library branches. Customers seeking services could include adults experiencing homelessness, adults with dual-diagnosis, transition-aged youth from 18-24 years, teens, and families. Services may include one-on-one brief therapy, group therapy, referrals to other services, and mentalhealth assessments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Meet with customers to provide brief mentalhealth therapeutic services in a non-traditional setting.

* Maintain confidential notes using an electronic records system.

* Refer customers to other mentalhealth supports in the community, housing supports, other social services using online tools and knowledge of other resources in the community.

* Prepares referral documents, assists customers in accessing services, provides advocacy, and initiates follow-up to ensure customers receive satisfactory service.
* Utilize deep knowledge of the community and other district governmental resources available and established connections with resources to make quality referrals when necessary.
* Deliver services in a manner that builds resiliency and supports customers using strength-based, trauma-informed, harm-reduction strategies, and choice, all in accordance with the NASW Code of Ethics.
* Maintain and support continuous quality improvement activities, including assisting with client satisfaction surveys.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience cannot be substituted for education
The incumbent must possess a master's degree in social work or counseling and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW) and/or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCP) certification. A minimum of five (5) years of experience is preferred. At least one (1) year at the next lower grade level (CS 11; CS 9 and below will not be considered). In addition, the following is required:
* Knowledge of the theoretical concepts, principles, and techniques of the psychological, social, and rehabilitative aspects of treating mentalhealth problems. Knowledge of psychiatric, psychological, and medical terminology used in the assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of mentalhealth problems.
* Knowledge of community resources and other institutions that serve District residents needing mentalhealth services and social services.
* Knowledge of the NASW Code of Ethics.
* Skills in clinical therapeutic practices such as, but not limited to, CBT, group therapy, somatic therapy, strength-based therapy, art therapy, brief therapy, etc.
* The work requires that the incumbent apply a high degree of professional knowledge and clinical judgment in assessing the needs of customers and providing and coordinating the array of services.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) manages and maintains the safety of the individuals and staff. The BHS takes vitals and assists individuals in meeting their needs while on the unit by providing exceptional customer service. Documents services provided and significant interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
* Conducts security screening and inventories property of individuals upon admission to the facility. Provides orientation to the Observation Unit and Short-term Inpatient Unit. Educates individuals on their rights under DBHDS and DMAS regulations, grievance process, provides expectations, and explains rules and regulations.
* Maintains safety of the unit.
* Intervenes with escalated individuals using therapeutic techniques for de-escalation and performs restraints or seclusions (if applicable) when needed to ensure the individual's safety and the safety of others. Completes 1-to-1 on an individual in seclusion or mechanical restraints for 15 minutes.
* Lifts, moves, and transports individuals using proper body mechanics or accident prevention.
* Assists individuals with activities of daily living to include eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
* Conducts and documents individual's vitals and reports all questionable results to the RN/Physician attending the individual. Conducts and documents all BAL, urine drug screens, and urine pregnancy tests.

About the Role
Unity Health Care is hiring a Behavioral Health Clinical Specialist to join our Behavioral Health team at the D.C. Department of Corrections (DOC). What You'll Do
Deliver and support implementation of high-fidelity evidence-based practices (EBPs).
Train DOC clinical staff and co-lead groups using models like CBT, DBT, TREM, IMR, WRAP, or TAMAR.
Complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments, including suicide risk and crisis evaluations.
Develop individualized treatment plans and participate in ongoing quality improvement.

Collaborate with DOC leadership and Unity's behavioral health teams to support recovery-focused care.
Who You Are
Licensed in DC as a LICSW, LPC, or Psychologist (required).
Hold a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
Bring 6+ years of psychotherapy experience working with at-risk populations.
Have at least 2 years of experience providing clinical supervision or teaching.
Skilled in one or more EBPs such as CBT, DBT, WRAP, or SUD/MAT programs.
Comfortable in correctional or high-acuity behavioral health environments.
Available for weekday and weekend rotations as needed.

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) seeks a LAW STUDENT intern for summer 2026 to to support the work of the Reproductive Rights and Health team, focusing on promoting reproductive rights and access to comprehensive, affordable health care, including abortion and birth control, via litigation and policy advocacy.
This is a full-time, non-exempt paid position of 37.5 hours per week to start June 1, 2026, and end August 7, 2026. This work may be done remotely, hybrid, or in-person. Intern must be located in one of the following states while working during the summer: DC, MD, VA, NJ, PA, IL, NY, or CT.

Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support reproductive rights and health internal and external-facing policy and litigation work, which can include:
* Providing legal and factual research and analysis;
* Tracking state and federal legislation and litigation on core and emerging issues;
* Cite checking and bluebooking documents;
* Drafting memos, talking points, testimony, blogs, factsheets, and other written materials;
* Support the preparation of briefs, pleadings, legislative toolkits, and comments on proposed federal agency regulations;
* Participating in coalition meetings, policy briefings, and events; and
* Attending executive and congressional proceedings.
Qualifications:
* Current enrollment in a JD program;
* Strong research and writing skills, including excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills;
* Experience working on gender justice issues with an intersectional lens;
* Experience or interest in an, advocacy, litigation, policymaking, or research environment;
* Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently;
* Flexibility, creativity, and initiative along with excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills.
Key Relations
The intern will report to a Senior Counsel on the RRH team as primary supervisor but will receive assignments from various members of the RRH team.
Compensation & Benefits
The intern will be paid an hourly rate of $17.95 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits. If funding is available through the intern's school, the payment contribution from NWLC will be adjusted accordingly.
Classification
This position is not included in the union-represented bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70.

What You'll Do:
The Behavioral Health Specialist-Safety & Security is a dual-function role responsible for both front entrance security and direct care support within the units. During the first portion of the shift, the specialist manages front entrance safety by greeting and screening all visitors, ensuring compliance with facility safety protocols, and supporting a welcoming environment. After completing entrance security responsibilities, the specialist transitions to providing direct Behavioral Health Specialist support on the unit-assisting with daily living activities, monitoring safety, conducting vital signs, and documenting services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). This role ensures both a secure facility environment and high-quality care for individuals served.
Safety & Security Responsibilities (First portion of shift):
* Provide safety and security at the facility's front entrance.
* Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors in a professional and supportive manner.
* Ensure all visitors are screened through the metal detector or handheld wand.
* Monitor that all personal belongings are placed in lockers prior to entry.
* Conduct security screening and inventory property of individuals upon admission to the facility.
* Provide orientation to the Observation Unit and Residential Crisis Stabilization Unit.
* Educate individuals on their rights under DBHDS and DMAS regulations, grievance processes, expectations, and facility rules.
Behavioral Health Specialist Responsibilities (Second portion of shift):
* Maintain safety of the unit; monitor and document individuals every 15 minutes.
* Intervene with escalated individuals using therapeutic de-escalation techniques; perform restraints or seclusion (if applicable) to ensure safety.
* Complete 1:1 observation for individuals in seclusion or mechanical restraints every 15 minutes during the event.
* Lift, move, and transport individuals using proper body mechanics and accident-prevention practices.
* Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including eating, bathing, and dressing.
* Conduct and document vital signs; report questionable results to RN/Physician.
* Conduct and document BAL, urine drug screens, and urine pregnancy tests.
* Attend court-ordered hearings when subpoenaed, provide testimony, and serve as a witness as required.
* Document all services and significant individual interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
* Maintain cleanliness of the facility and assigned unit, including light cleaning, collecting soiled linens, and laundering individuals' clothing when needed.
