About the Role BNI Treatment Centers is seeking a dedicated Clinical Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with our clinical staff to support the treatment and growth of adolescents in our care. You will play a key role in supervising clients, facilitating clinical activities, and helping shape a constructive therapeutic community. Responsibilities Provide direct care and supervision to clients while maintaining the structure of the facility. Conduct one-to-one counseling sessions and support clients with individual challenges. Monitor, record, and communicate client progress; identify when additional services may be needed. Facilitate therapeutic groups, workshops, social/recreational activities, and outings. Utilize appropriate interventions, including de-escalation and crisis response strategies. Establish positive and professional relationships with adolescents while maintaining healthy boundaries. Participate in weekly team meetings, monthly drills, and ongoing staff development. Ensure safety, cleanliness, and adherence to facility policies, including house runs and overnight checks when scheduled. Provide transportation for approved clients in company vehicles. Qualifications High School Diploma or higher education required. Counselor Certification preferred but not required. Experience working with high-risk adolescents and families strongly preferred. Strong communication, documentation, and decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Valid California driver's license required. Must meet federal, state, and local background clearance requirements. If in recovery, at least one year of sobriety/clean time is required. Knowledge & Abilities Understanding of clinical documentation standards and treatment planning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Mental Health Specialist's key areas of responsibility include: Key Areas of Responsibility: Provide street based outreach, navigation, and mental health support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Provide support and assistance to clients with accessing resources in the community. Establish and maintain professional and positive relationships with staff, clients, and community providers. Provide mental health assessment and interventions to the severe and persistently mentally ill. Link clients to appropriate bridge/interim housing programs and assist them in completing required paperwork in order to enroll them in permanent housing programs. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, program evaluation and program development. Build trust and rapport with individuals experiencing homelessness. Assess homeless individuals utilizing the DSM-V. The Metro Mental Health Specialist works as a team member of a multi-disciplinary homeless street outreach team (MDT), in collaboration with social service professionals, ensuring the delivery of quality care in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Los Angeles Department of Health Services (DHS). The Metro Mental Health Specialist as part of the DHS ICMS Street Based Engagement Outreach (SBE) Team, will work in a variety of settings that will involve traveling on public transportation and on HYC designated vehicles. The Metro Mental Health Specialist will travel with the MDT Outreach team to a variety of sites including but not limited to transit stops on bus and rail line stops/stations, homeless encampments, shelters, drop-in centers, mobile outreach teams, and other areas as designated by DHS. Job Description Job Summary The Mental Health Specialist works as a team member multi-disciplinary homeless street outreach team, in collaboration with social service professionals, ensuring the delivery of quality care in accordance to the rules and regulations established by the Los Angeles Department of Health Services for contracted agencies, as well as adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center. The E6 MDT Mental Health Specialist will use the “whatever it takes” approach and strong clinical lens to help people experiencing homelessness get connected to resources, and mental health supportive services, in order to obtain permanent housing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Mental Health Specialist's key areas of responsibility include: Key Areas of Responsibility: Provide street based outreach, navigation, and mental health support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Provide support and assistance to clients with accessing resources in the community. Establish and maintain professional and positive relationships with staff, clients, and community providers. Provide mental health assessment and interventions to the severe and persistently mentally ill. Link clients to appropriate bridge/interim housing programs and assist them in completing required paperwork in order to enroll them in permanent housing programs. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, program evaluation and program development. Essential Duties: Implement case management service plan goals, emphasizing coordinated strategies for addressing mental health/substance abuse issues, relapse prevention, medication management, and any other risk factors that could impede permanent housing and provide ongoing assessment of client progress in attaining goals. Build trust and rapport with individuals experiencing homelessness. Assess homeless individuals utilizing the DSM-V. Utilize a harm reduction model when working with clients with chemical dependency or abuse issues. Link clients to appropriate bridge/interim housing programs and assist them in completing required paperwork in order to enroll them in permanent housing-related programs. Keep highly organized files for each client and enter appropriate data into the region's Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Assist clients to enroll in mainstream benefits and obtain identification (i.e. California Driver's License, Social Security Card). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the position, which includes transporting clients in company vehicles. Provide bus tokens, bus passes, taxi vouchers, and/or direct transportation as needed. Perform daily follow-ups and wellness checks on existing clients and on all new referrals.
