As a Substance Abuse Counselor you'll engage with your patients with individual, group, and/or family counseling. You'll work with a collaborative treatment team consisting of our Medical Director, Program Director, Treatment Services Coordinator, Counselors and Nurses to identify and meet the clinical needs of the patient and to assist in their overall well-being.

How you make a difference
As a Licensed MentalHealth Professional working in a correctional facility, your responsibilities include conducting intake evaluations, providing therapeutic interventions and suicide prevention techniques, and developing treatment plans for inmates. You will also be responsible for monitoring the clinical needs of inmates on your caseload, providing staff training on mentalhealth topics, and documenting all findings in accordance with company and facility policies. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
* Intake Screening and Assessment: The incumbent will work directly with eligible individuals to establish a therapeutic relationship and complete all required readjustment counseling intake procedures, including an assessment of risk for self-harm, military history and military related psychosocial stressors.

* Risk Assessment and Crisis Intervention: The incumbent will conduct timely assessment of Veterans in crisis to identify immediate needs, evaluate risk, and initiate safety planning as appropriate.
* Care Coordination: The incumbent links the Veteran with other community services, resources, and opportunities to maximize the Veteran's independence, health, and well-being.
* Coordinating Readjustment Counseling and Outreach: The incumbent will maintain active coordination with Vet Center outreach workers to ensure seamless referral to Vet Center services for those individuals engaged in the community at outreach events that may require follow-up readjustment counseling.
* Team Cohesion and Coordination: Under the supervision of the Vet Center Director, the incumbent will actively participate in Vet Center staff meetings designed to promote team building and staff development through conjoint planning and problem solving, staff discussion of problematic cases, coaching and mentoring new Vet Center staff hires, and addressing issues of staff selfcare.

Responsible for complying with federal and state confidentiality statutes, upholding ethical standards established and implied by the profession, DHS rules, and be limited in authority to that set by the Treatment Director.
Participate in weekly treatment team meetings to review and update client progress notes.
Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with client referrals, probation and social service agencies, etc.

Ensure compliance with Department of Human Services (DHS) 245G Statutes including timely documentation completion, clinical thoroughness and accurate billing for services provided. Conduct chart audits as requested.
Understand the Grievance Policy to assist clients in navigating the process to resolve grievances at the lowest level in a timely manner and document accordingly.
Maintain knowledge of and apply American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria. Appropriately diagnose clients using the DSM -5.Provide screening and assessment through SUD Evaluations/Assessments and required documentation.
Provide intake and orientation to programming and required documentation.
In conjunction with the client, create and monitor an individualized treatment plan based on client's needs, language, reading skills, cultural background and strengths.

Complete drug screens with clients based on clinical necessity. Therapeutically address drug screen results with clients.
Maintain the integrity of the SUD Program Structure including the need for weekly SUD Individual Sessions as part of ASAM Levels of Care.
Participate in scheduled individual clinical supervision meetings with supervisor.
Assist with training of professional program staff and provide supervision to assigned interns as requested.
