This position is grant-funded with an expected end date of August 31, 2026. It is designated as a fellowship opportunity for recent graduates of the Steve Hicks School of Social Work Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Eligible candidates must have graduated in either the December 2024 or May 2025 cohorts.
Purpose
This position aims to professionally develop a recent MSW SHSSW graduate in integrated healthcare service provision through therapeutic evidence-based practice models and measurement-based care approaches to full clinical licensure. Over the two-year period, the position will meet the required supervision hours for a fully licensed clinical social worker. The position will provide therapeutic support to young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 who seek the Amplify Center for mentalhealthcare, which is part of UT Health Austin.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of an LCSW-S, the mentalhealth therapist completes a biopsychosocial assessment of patients. The applied biopsychosocial model and approach will include cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, supportive therapy, and/or other techniques and modalities as clinically indicated. Completes relative evaluations and treatment plans and provides individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Participates in screening, tracking, and reporting of patient outcomes and social work interventions. Completes documentation in the clinical record related to interaction with individuals served, families, and other service providers in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with professional ethics and with both Federal and State regulations.
Provides discipline-specific knowledge to interdisciplinary team around mentalhealth, cultural competency, social determinants of health, and innovative ways to approach chronic illness in patients. Participates in value-based research initiatives and research for operational improvements in patient care.
Provides care management to include connecting patients to needed resources such as community mentalhealth services, and other resources in the community.
Maintains clear, timely, adequate, and professional documentation of patient progress, in assessment, goal planning, and discharge processes.
Work collaboratively with an integrated team and provide discipline-specific knowledge about mentalhealth and successful ways to approach young adults' social and emotional needs at work and school.

Required Qualifications
Must be a recent graduate of the UT Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work with a master's in social work no earlier than December 2024.
Licensure in the state of Texas (LMSW) or be certified as an LPC Associate (LPC-A) in the state of Texas with 1,000 hours towards full clinical licensure.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other health care professionals (i.e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, school counselors, care coordinators).
Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, organizational, planning, follow-up/follow-through, and time management skills.
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice environment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Have experience delivering care as a member of an interdisciplinary team and/or working with young adults.
Have a working knowledge of and/or experience with Brief Intervention, and Motivational Interviewing, and value-based healthcare delivery.
Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment.
Ability to manage multiple streams of work.

Position Overview

Collaborate with psychiatric providers for medication management coordination and case review.
Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Maintain ethical and legal standards consistent with state licensing boards, HIPAA, and VA/TriWest telehealth compliance requirements.
Support clients with transition planning, resource referrals, and follow-up care to ensure continuity of treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
Active Texas license: LPC, LPC-Associate, LMFT, LMFT-Associate, LCSW, or LMSW under supervision.
Master's degree in Clinical MentalHealth Counseling, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Social Work from an accredited program.
Minimum 1 year of direct counseling experience (telehealth experience preferred).

This position will provide telephonic crisis assessment with the City of Dallas 911 call center dispatch. The role of the behavioral health clinician is to screen and assess for risk harm, to identify the level of priority for the call. The clinician will work in conjunction with the City of Dallas staff and Dallas Police Department and assist in communicating, prioritizing, and coordinating care as deemed clinically appropriate at the time of the call.
HOURS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Shift 1-7am-3:00pm and Shift 2- 2:00pm-10:00pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide crisis assessment services in a variety of modalities.
Behavioral Health Clinician will screen/assess the crisis, provide an evidence-based intervention, and stabilize the crisis. The caller is then linked with service coordination to assess the level of further stabilization needs and appropriateness for other services in the crisis continuum.
Develop person-centered crisis plan and assist the individual in executing the plan during and post crisis intervention.
Ensure continuity of care post crisis intervention to appropriate outpatient services, including but not limited to, outpatient mentalhealth, substance abuse services, and/or primary care services.
Be accessible for referrals and communication through our electronic health applications, by phone and email to provide a timely and comprehensive response.
Interacting with internal and external partners, including but not limited to City of Dallas personnel, dispatch team, supervisor(s), Right Care Team and others, to provide comprehensive and timely assistance in resolving issues that are barriers to the consumer receiving services.
Develop close working relationships with internal and external referral resources.
Maintain confidentiality of information concerning individuals and family members
Follow all relevant City of Dallas procedures.

Law Clerks - Community Revitalization Project (Unpaid)
DESCRIPTION: Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) is a non-profit public interest law firm that provides high-quality free civil legal services to low-income persons and groups from 15 offices in North and West Texas. LANWT is the fifth largest legal aid firm in the United States.
OVERVIEW: LANWT seeks dynamic, self-starting law students who have vision, initiative, and a demonstrated commitment to public interest law benefiting low-income communities for its Community Revitalization Project (CRP) at various locations throughout its service area. Law clerks will be responsible for assisting attorneys in providing legal services, advocacy, and transaction work in the following areas of community revitalization:
Affordable Fair Housing - increasing access to fair housing; removing barriers to developing and maintaining affordable housing for individuals; educating communities regarding fair housing issues; eliminating discriminatory housing practices and ensuring the affordability, accessibility, and integration of public housing, subsidized housing, and private housing.
Environmental Justice - addressing environmental injustices, including exposure to high levels of pollution, health impacts related to exposure of pollution, resulting community deterioration; and protecting low-income communities from environmental hazards.
Community Development and Advocacy - ensuring the right to meaningful input on matters affecting the community; advocating to promote economic justice; ensuring fair allocation of infrastructure resources; combating predatory lending practices; and addressing displacement, substandard housing, high crime, and other public safety issues in low-income communities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Law clerks work with attorneys on case development, outreach, and litigation. Under the supervision of an attorney, a law clerk's primary responsibilities are to perform legal and factual research, assist with community education, and to develop case strategies and legal theories. Law clerks may also have the opportunity to assist attorneys with preparing legal documents, attend administrative and/or court proceedings, and to meet with clients and experts. Clerks will be afforded the opportunity to work alongside the state's most prominent advocates in the fields of affordable fair housing, environmental law, and community development.

How you'll contribute
An Utilization Review Specialist who excels in this role:
Displays knowledge of clinical criteria, managed care requirements for inpatient and outpatient authorization and advocates on behalf of the patient to secure coverage for needed services
Completes pre and re-certifications for inpatient and outpatient services.
Reports appropriate denial, and authorization information to designated resource.
Actively communicates with interdisciplinary team to acquire pertinent information and give updates on authorizations.
Participate in treatment teams to ensure staff have knowledge of coverage and to collect information for communication with agencies.
Works with DON to ensure documentation requirements are met.
Ensure appeals are completed thoroughly and on a timely basis.
Interface with managed care organizations, external reviews, and other payers.
Communicate with physicians to schedule peer to peer reviews.
Accurately report denials.

What we're looking for
Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree (required), Master's degree preferred. Additional requirements include:
Current unencumbered clinical license strongly preferred
CPR and CPI Certification within 30 day of employment
Previous utilization review experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility preferred.

What you'll do: You'll report administratively to the health services administrator and clinically to the psychiatrist. If you're an LPC-A, clinical supervision will be provided. You'll be responsible for planning and implementing professional mentalhealth services programs of a non-medical nature in compliance with MTC Medical and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) directives.
Position responsibilities:
* Develop and implement treatment and therapeutic programs for assigned clients.
* Assume independent clinical responsibility for all clients including the application of crisis intervention techniques to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
* Conduct diagnosis and evaluation tests for clients to determine needs, establish goals and develop plans; make referrals to contract professionals for assessment and treatment of clients.
* Provide direct casework services and individual and group counseling to clients.
* Prepare progress reports; provide recommendations regarding treatment plans; make case presentations; and assist administrative and medical staff in development of statistical reports on assigned clients.
* Maintain and monitor confidentiality of clients and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of clients to determine that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
* Screen requests for non-medical records and appropriately approve or disapprove responses following policy and procedures.
* Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff and clients.
* Attend seminars, workshops, conferences, and so forth, as required.
* Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification; perform CPR in emergencies.
* Serve in rotation with other mentalhealth providers to provide after-hours and weekend client care, if required, to include accepting on-call rotation.
* Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
* Maintain accountability of clients and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and experience requirements:
* Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, mentalhealth, counseling or related field
* A license or certification as required by the state of Texas. Current license in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Advance Practice Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW-AP), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
* Computer skills desired, and evaluative and counseling skills are essential.
* Must hold a current CPR certification.
* Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
