Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Manager or designee, the counselor intern provides the following services: screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, reports and record keeping and consultation with other professionals regarding client treatment and services. All assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans prepared by the intern must be reviewed and signed by Program Manager (or designee). Duties & Responsibilities: Assist in conducting screening and intake interviews with potential clients and referral sources to assess for appropriateness of placement and eligibility for admission. Complete required documents for admission to the program including Individual Abuse Prevention Plan, Initial Services Plan and Release of Information forms. Describe to the client the program guidelines and expectation. Provide clients in timely manner with information and understanding of any or all treatment costs, their client rights, and any other information deemed necessary by Progress Valley or licensing agencies. Complete appropriate assessments and develop a diagnostic evaluation that allows for an integrated approach to treatment planning. Work with clients to identify and evaluate their strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences with the goal to develop an individualized treatment plan. Work with the client to establish immediate and long-term treatment goals and objectives; decide on a treatment process and the resources to be utilized. Assist clients and families in achieving their treatment goals and objectives utilizing appropriate therapeutic methods and recognized best practices. Provide case management that brings services, agencies, resources, or people together within a planned framework of action toward the achievement of established goals. Develop curriculum for and facilitate therapeutic, behavioral and educational group sessions (including lectures). Identify the needs of the client which cannot be met by Progress Valley and assist the client to utilize the support systems and community resources available to them. Develop and resent relevant alcohol and other drug abuse and co-occurring information to clients, family and community members through formal educational presentations. Recognize client crisis and implement an appropriate course of action. Individualize counseling in accordance with cultural, gender and lifestyle differences. Make appropriate and timely referrals when necessary. Provide timely and accurate documentation which includes, but is not limited to, client assessments, treatment plan, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other client-related data. Consult with other internal staff and/or external professionals in regard to client treatment and services to assure comprehensive, quality care for the client. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations and agency policies related to the protection of client confidentiality. Monitor and approve use of client privileges. Plan and participate in client/alumni activities/events, family and community education and other outreach/marketing functions as directed. Promote positive action between clinical and administrative staff. Attain, maintain and promote a positive, safe, harmonious, productive and challenging work environment. Participate in staff meetings, clinical staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as assigned. Attend clinical supervision classes and meetings as well as fulfill all internship obligations of the school. Collect urinalysis samples and perform breath analysis test to clients, as needed. Role: These are caregiver positions with an emphasis on mental health and behavior management supports Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Schedule: Various schedules available Work Location: In person Job Description About the Program: Our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) group homes support individuals with complex mental health and behavioral needs. Many of the people we serve have experienced frequent crises, hospital stays, or legal involvement. They may have a history of failed placements and need a highly structured environment to succeed. Our homes are specially designed for safety, and our approach is consistent, person-centered, and focused on helping individuals reach their goals while maintaining safety for everyone. Due to the challenging nature of this work, staff receive training in behavioral support and crisis response, including the use of manual restraints when necessary. Please note: This role may involve exposure to verbal aggression or difficult behaviors. We provide strong training and team support to help you succeed. What You'll Do: As a Mental Health Specialist II, you'll play a hands-on role in helping people lead more independent, stable lives. Provide Hands-On Care : Assist individuals with daily activities like personal care, meal prep, transportation, housekeeping, and laundry, all while fostering independence. Daily Support: Help with everyday tasks like personal care, cooking, and transportation. Behavioral & Emotional Support: Use proven strategies to manage behaviors and support mental wellness. Safe Environment: Keep the home clean and safe while promoting a positive, structured routine. Mentorship & Encouragement: Be a role model-encourage progress, offer support, and celebrate milestones. Great fit for: Those with experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) , Behavior Technician (BT/RBT) , or in other caregiving/mental health roles. Qualifications What You Bring to the Table: Experience: At least 3 years working with individuals who exhibit challenging behaviors (e.g., physical/verbal aggression, property destruction, or self-injury) in a caregiving, direct support, or similar role. Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old (21+ for certain sites). Education: High school diploma or GED. Passion for Helping Others: Experience supporting individuals with mental health conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety) or developmental disabilities. Physical Stamina: Ability to stay on your feet, walk, stand, and regularly lift up to 50 lbs. Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Tech Skills: Basic computer skills for documenting care and tracking progress. Communication: Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills are essential. You'll need them to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with internal and external team members. KE Camps is the leading provider of summer camps for country clubs nationwide. We partner with over 230 private clubs all over the country to implement traditional-style day camps for elementary-aged children. Our Staff are the backbone of our programs and therefore, we pride ourselves on giving them an incredible amount of support. As a staff member, we guarantee you will feel a part of the KE Camps Team! Our Camp Counselor positions have the potential to serve as competitively paid internships that meet your course credit needs. First and foremost, your primary responsibilities will be as a Camp Counselor. As an Intern, you will be expected to fulfill your regular daily job responsibilities and it will be up to you to complete your internship responsibilities and to ensure that they do not interfere with your work obligations. Contact your college advisor in advance and ask them if you can use your summer camp job as a practicum, internship or for other course credits. If KE Camps can meet your internship requirements, your on-site Camp Director will be your field supervisor and oversee your course work. You will also be connected to a KE Camps contact at our HQ in Skillman, NJ. To receive credit, you must complete the course, practicum or internship per your college's parameters and complete your summer employment. As a Camp Counselor, you will be an active participant in all camp activities and will assist your Camp Director with a variety of daily tasks, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful camp experience for your campers. Our Counselors interact with our campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things, and generally caring for their well-being. The role of a Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
