Key's Clinical Team is Growing! Unlocking Hope Outpatient Counseling Services, a division of The Key Program, Inc., is seeking part-time master-level and licensed clinicians (LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, PsyD, or equivalent) to join our team on a fee-for-service basis (under 20 hours). Unlocking Hope, located in Providence, RI, serves children and young adults ages 4-19 and their families by providing personalized and compassionate treatment tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual by nurturing growth, resilience, and hope.
Compensation: This is a fee-for-service position; $42 - $47 an hour

Responsibilities:
Services include individual and family sessions provided by clinicians informed through experience and evidence-based interventions.
Treatment services support those struggling with Depression, Anxiety, Trauma & PTSD, Grief and Loss, Family Conflict, Life Transitions, Academic Difficulties, and Adoption/Foster Care.
Requirements:

AGENCY OVERVIEW
The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is the state agency in Massachusetts responsible for providing an attorney when the state or federal constitution or a state statute requires the appointment of an attorney for a person who cannot afford to retain one. The agency provides representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, child welfare, guardianship, mentalhealth, sexually dangerous person, and sex offender registry cases, as well as in appeals and post-conviction and post-judgment proceedings related to those matters.

Responsibilities
MENTALHEALTH LITIGATION DIVISION OVERVIEW
The MentalHealth Litigation Division provides individuals with attorneys for Civil Commitment proceedings in the District and Superior Courts and provides attorneys for appointment by the Probate and Family Courts to represent persons in Guardianships and Substituted Judgment proceedings, including cases involving Conservatorship, Elder Abuse, the Validation of Health Care Proxies, Nursing Home Admission and Do Not Resuscitate orders. Civil Commitments are handled by both staff and private attorneys, while most cases in the Probate Court are handled by private panel attorneys.
In addition to our staff offices in Brockton, Roxbury, Northampton, and Worcester, the MHLD has attorneys in our trial support and oversight office and our training department. All our attorneys receive training in issues relating to mentalhealth and the statutory and constitutional rights of our clients. The MentalHealth Litigation Division offers interns a variety of experiences and assignments under the supervision of highly experienced attorneys.
MentalHealth Commitment Defense Units
The MHLD offices located in Brockton, Northampton, Roxbury, and Worcester seeks interns and law coop students who have completed their 2L year and are or can be 3:03 certified to assist attorneys with representation of citizens facing involuntary civil commitment to mentalhealth facilities, and involuntary medical treatment for mental illness, including the administration of anti-psychotic medications. 1Ls are welcome to intern with the commitment defense offices to assist with client calls, reviewing medical records and legal research. Shadow several attorneys during their internship,
Develop a working understanding of G.L. c. 123 and the requirements for civil commitment, District and Municipal Court commitment proceedings, court-ordered medication proceedings, and the rules of evidence as applied in mentalhealth cases,
Visit clients and conduct interviews to obtain relevant information and ascertain the client's position on their pending petition(s)
Work with independent medical experts including psychiatrists, psychologists, social service experts, and other mentalhealth professionals as requested by staff attorneys,
Work with attorneys to prepare motions for funds, motions for in person hearings, review medical records, direct examinations, cross-examination of Designated Forensic Psychologists and Psychiatrists and closing arguments,
Develop research on race and equity issues in civil commitments and assist in developing a litigation guide for such issues, Conduct research into support for novel issues or arguments.
MentalHealth Litigation Division Trial Panel Support Unit
The MentalHealth Trial Panel Support Unit based in Boston supports and oversees the private panel attorneys handling civil commitments and probate court matters. TSOU seeks law students who have completed their 1L year to
Conduct legal research on systemic and specific issues affecting clients with mental disabilities,
Draft practice materials for attorneys representing clients in mentalhealth matters,
Handle intake line calls from patients and clients in mentalhealth facilities and provide information about their legal status, assignment of counsel or referral,
Trial Support interns also assist MHLD Training Unit attorneys to create and edit training materials, and to develop and maintain MentalHealth online training and resource initiatives.

Participates as a member of the mentalhealth team on an inpatient and/or outpatient mentalhealth unit. Provides direct patient care including treatment planning, implementing plans, documentation, and milieu safety assessments and activities such as group activities.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a member of the MentalHealth Team and serves both internal and external customers including patients, families, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
2. Provides clear, timely communication to the Registered Nurse (R.N.) regarding observations and changes seen in the patient. Records behavioral data on appropriate data sheets.
3. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, environmental safety rounds, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed utilizing de-escalation and calming tools and strategies with anxious patients and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
4. Participates and shares responsibility for the development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment.
5. Serves as a leader or co-leader for group activities such as goal setting group, dual diagnosis groups, various activity groups, and structuring and supervising recreational activities. Handles routine situations and must request assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
6. Assists in medical emergencies as directed by R.N. Utilizes proper safety techniques and body mechanic in all work-related activities.
7. Obtains and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, and respiration, blood pressure and pulse oximetry). Measures and records patients' height and weight as assigned by R.N.
8. Performs a variety of test and procedures which may include but not limited to EKGs, phlebotomy, and intake and output as assigned by R.N.
9. Documents daily progress notes, and group notes (per policy) and as assigned by R.N.
10. Assists the R.N. in other medical and psychiatric interventions as directed.
11. Provides personal care as appropriate, working to optimize patient's independent functioning in performance of daily routines.
12. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
13. Performs safety checks on patients and unit as directed. Documents findings.
14. Reviews and follows treatment plan with patient. Provides feedback to clinical team regarding implementation of the plan. Implements special treatment strategies as indicated in the plan.
15. Maintains logs, organizes patient care charts for admission/discharge/transfer and maintains medical records as instructed.
16. Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required or directed. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, emails, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
17. Participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
18. Compiles with required health, safety and HIPAA requirements.
