Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
POSITION SUMMARY
Our Outpatient Therapists make a difference in the lives of the children and families in need, working with the disadvantaged, at risk and undeserved. As the Outpatient Therapist, you will provide office based clinical services for children ages 3-18 with issues such as disruptive behaviors, ADHD, parent-child relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, school-related issues and bullying. Our therapists also provide services to adults up to age 24 with depression, anxiety, life transition difficulties, etc. and pregnant or new moms experiencing stress/depression. Services include individual therapy, family systems interventions and care coordination.
We offer flexible day and evening hours as well as the ability to schedule your own cases, choose how many cases you wish to see and manage your own caseload with the support of an on-site supervisor. As the Outpatient Therapist, you will also receive all required supervision hours toward independent licensure for free.
This is a part-time position with a schedule of 15-28 hours/week.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Provide individual therapy, parent guidance and family interventions to assigned clients and families.
Gather clinical information in the initial mental health assessment interview and during ongoing treatment contacts. Identify client needs for additional services and refers them appropriately.
Collaborate with the client and family and develop focused, measurable and achievable service plans that reflect the individual needs of the client.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation.
Work a varied schedule to meet client and agency needs.
Maintain clear progress toward treatment goals using Agency required measures. Meet productivity expectations if established by the Clinical Supervisor.
Use a cultural assessment to implement a service plan that incorporates the clients' own uniqueness, values, beliefs and attributes.
Provide clinical supervision to assigned staff and/or interns in accordance with licensing regulations for professional discipline.
Participates in training and learning collaborative to increase skills and develop competence in evidence based models of practice.
Provide after hours on-call response as assigned and in accordance with applicable licensure requirement.
Accept community based assignments (e.g. schools, court facilities, etc.) and serves as a positive representative of the agency therein.

Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going trainings.

We are currently seeking a full-time Youth Community Based Case Manager. The purpose of this position is to provide a wide range of community support and coordination of services to people experiencing serious mental illness and/or addiction challenges to ensure their needs are addressed. The Case Manager supports clients in the development of their short and long-term goals and acquisition of community resources using a person-centered approach. Services will be provided with respect to cultural preferences and in accordance with client's rights. Position Summary:The Licensed mental health provider/Non-Clinical Case Manager shall provide year-round dedicated mental health and wellness services to Washtenaw Community College students. The primary goal is to facilitate student success and retention by providing short-term counseling and mental health support , non-clinical case management, referral to internal/external counseling resources, crisis intervention, engaging students in self-care, promoting student success and wellbeing, and fostering behaviors that contribute to student degree completion. Respond to daily counseling and case management functions including student emergencies, student referrals, walk-in requests, and faculty/staff/administrative consults. This includes regular responses to crisis and urgent mental health needs where wellness checks on students may be appropriate and follow-up necessary.
Ability to quickly make a strong therapeutic alliance with students of any background to support their emergency or day-to-day mental health needs.
Provide specialized support and intervention for WCC students experiencing complex mental health issues and crises. This includes comprehensive suicide risk assessment, safety planning (including lethal means management), and consistent application of WCC emergency mental health protocols.
Provide timely and appropriate referrals to internal and external support services, and coordinate intervention plans in collaboration with community resources using a case management model
Assist with long-term needs of students including follow-up to ensure students have been successful in addressing issues/questions related to student crisis. This may include creating and managing post-intervention strategies for those students returning after a psychological emergency and/or hospitalization.
Monitor and track individual cases and student progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, including safety assessment and safety planning
Manage a caseload of students through an electronic documentation system and communicate with relevant campus partners regarding students of concern. This includes making sure all correspondence, notes and action items are accurately documented
Create and maintain mental health/wellness presentations, educational programs, and materials for faculty, staff, and students.
Perform outreach to faculty, staff, and students as well as other community stakeholders to support students in need
Prepare reports, proposals, and audits as required by the Executive Director of Student Success Services
Conduct research on best practices and evaluate benchmarks associated with the proactive assessment of initiatives supporting the mental health/wellness of current students.
Assist in the development of strategic goals that align with institutional goals relevant to student mental health/wellness needs
Collaborate as part of the college CARE team, a multi-disciplinary team designed to provide assessment and support to students of concern.
Represent the Counseling & Success Services departments on additional relevant college committees, campus functions and community agencies
Establish and maintain effective collegial partnerships with related campus departments including Campus Safety, Dean of Students, Student Activities, Success Coaching, Student Resource Center, Advising, and LSS as well as campus departments and external agencies determined relevant to the mental health success of WCC students.
Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.

Hours/Schedule:The Licensed mental health provider/NCCM shall be accountable for 200 reporting days, within the 12-month academic year. This position will work a flexible schedule as needed to accommodate day, and evening students.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications
* Completion of Mental health Certificate program, 2 years college with major in Behavioral Science, or 4 years equivalent work experience in a behavioral health setting. Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field preferred.
* 1 year in behavioral setting preferred.
* BLS and CPI training required
* Good communication skills.
* Work well in an unpredictable environment.
* Must be able to occasionally handle working in a high paced stressful environment/situation

The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For 2026 internships will last 15 weeks, projected to begin on January 26th and conclude on May 8th.

How will we work together?
The Community Outreach & Engagement Intern can expect to work a hybrid schedule. Based on specific project needs, there are times when you and the team will work on-site at The Henry Ford's campus in Dearborn, MI.
As our intern you will:
Draft e-newsletters and program communications
Co-lead and assist in planning quarterly Community Outreach Program Partner Meetings
Identify and co-design virtual and in-person engagement opportunities for Community Outreach Partners
Manage access opportunities for community partners for special events and programs at The Henry Ford.
Co-lead and assist with onsite and offsite Community Engagement and Outreach events and programs
Support Intern lead in the planning of community-based programming for Jackson Home engagement in the Metro Detroit region.
Draft community partner survey and analyze data results to help the future mission of the Community Outreach Program.

The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative Internship Program Overview and Time Commitment
The FFEI Internship Program's mission is to offer opportunities in museum work to emerging professionals who identify with historically marginalized groups and to invite our interns to think outside the box and explore their careers in new ways.
Participants will engage in the program through various bi-weekly professional development workshops hosted on our Dearborn campus. It is mandatory for participants to attend, and applicants should work with their leadership to ensure proper attendance. Workshops tend to occur on Wednesdays throughout the program.
Attendance to our Intern Orientation is also mandatory. Our Winter 2026 orientation will occur on January 26, 2026.
