Job Functions:

The skills needed for this position are excellent communication skills, the ability to multi task, good writing skills in order to complete documentation, interpersonal skills, conflict resolutions skills, the ability to provide care that is appropriate to the age of the patient, and the ability to consistently set boundaries.

Shifts Available:

-Day Shift: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm; full-time (prtf only)

-Evening Shift: 3:00 pm - 11:00pm; full-time

(Part-time or PRN opportunities may be discussed in interview depending on availability)

***Every other weekend is required***

Job Description

The Mental Health Worker, Inpatient BH, provides care to patients and maintains a safe environment under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Group and individual patient supervision, facilitation of educational group activities, assisting with ADL's (i.e., Feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulating, etc.) & taking and recording vital signs. All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and procedures and be carried out to the highest level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration. The Mental Health Worker/Inpatient BH will demonstrate the Barnabas Health philosophy of Total Quality Management by actively applying that philosophy in all dealing with both internal and external customers.

Additional Requirements

- Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Health Related Field

- BLS Certification, EKG & Phlebotomy validation by the end of Orientation (will be trained)

- Minimum one year experience, training or education in the field of treatment preferred

- Must possess excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills

- Experience as a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician, EMT, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, EKG Tech or equivalent; or in a patient care setting is helpful

- Must be able to work every other weekend

The Behavioral Technician/Security Officer provides safety and security to patients, health care workers and the unit by responding to situations to deescalate crisis situations. Protects and maintains a secure environment by enforcing rules and regulations to provide for the safety of personnel, patients, visitors and the facet. Additionally The Technician functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess the functional abilities, impairments, and needs of each patient and address these individually and through psycho-education groups. The Mental Health Technician/Security Health Officer leads daily educational groups focused on essential skills patients need to manager their illness as well as their social environment. The Technician documents patient participation, progress and changes in condition, contributes to the formulation of individualized plans of treatment, and performs regular assessment of patient progress to ensure maximum therapeutic benefit. Assists in chart maintenance, environment of care, patient care and transportation as needed. Works under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
