The Youth Cinema Project (YCP) is a project-based learning program that teaches film to youth in public schools during regular school and/or after school/summer school. YCP Mentors are professional filmmakers that teach 90-minute film classes, twice a week to students in 5th - 12th grades. In collaboration with a co-mentor, YCP Mentors implement our rigorous filmmaking curriculum and guide students through the filmmaking process to produce high-quality short film content over the course of the school year (August - June). YCP Mentors can expect to work 7-14 hours a week.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates MUST have a minimum of 3 years working in the film industry as a producer, director or in any below-the-line position.
Candidates MUST have expertise in at least one specific area of filmmaking.
Candidates MUST have editing experience - not to a professional editors level but enough to edit simple short content.
Candidates MUST be comfortable using Google Suite
Travel (up to 50 miles) may be required. Mileage is reimbursed.
Candidates MUST have a Bachelors in film.
Candidates MUST be comfortable in a school environment teaching children.
Collaborate with other mentors and staff to create a positive and inclusive environment
Help youth develop life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and decision-making

Duties:
Teach a year-long film program in the classroom during regular school
Attend all YCP trainings and professional development meetings (monthly)

Complete, compile and submit program materials and program data in a timely manner
Responsible for all class deliverables (finished scripts, films, etc.)
Commitment to the mission statement and philosophy of the program
Adhere to Mentor Handbook guidelines
Build and maintain positive rapport with students, school personnel, and colleagues

Conduct inventory of classroom film equipment as required
Pre-Employment Bootcamp:
Mandatory for all candidates: Before any role is offered, all candidates must participate in a bootcamp training program.
Pass/Fail Assessment: The bootcamp has a strict pass/fail evaluation.
Assessment Criteria:
Teaching Structure Understanding: Trainees are assessed on their comprehension of the designated teaching methods and frameworks.
Overall Mannerism: Their professional demeanor, communication skills, and overall suitability for an instructional role are evaluated.
Trainee Pay: During the bootcamp, all trainees receive an hourly wage of $17.28.
Mentor Pay: Upon successful completion of the bootcamp and subsequent promotion to the role of "Mentor," the hourly pay increases to $31.80.
Role Offer: Successful bootcamp graduates are offered a position as "Mentors."
Class Assignment: Along with the Mentor role, successful trainees are assigned to teach specific classes.

The Mayor's Youth Employment and Education Program (MYEEP) is a citywide collaboration of ten non-profit organizations in San Francisco and provides paid work experience to over 1,000 San Francisco high school youth annually. MYEEP leverages the desire of young people to be employed to engage them in job readiness training, youth development, and educational activities. The Academic Mentor Program, now in its sixth year, provides participants with academic enrichment. Each MYEEP location has a dedicated Academic Mentor who facilitates skill-based workshops, monitors academic success, and provides tutoring.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The MYEEP Academic Mentor will be responsible for facilitating workshops for program participants. Mentors are expected to also engage in group tutoring sessions as well as provide high quality one on one academic support for program participants. This is a part-time, average 19 hours a week, (3-4 days) in-person position from September to May. During the Fall semester students will engage in the Academic Mentor Program as well as job readiness training while they attend school. During the Spring semester, the academic mentor will provide individual or small-group tutorial support and personalized academic Workshops. The Academic Mentor reports directly to the Academic Mentor Program Coordinator and works closely with their MYEEP coordinator and their CIT.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Support youth program participates aged 14-16 in improving their overall academic performance
Monitor and facilitate tutoring groups of up to 15-25 participants across various subjects
Create, lead and facilitate weekly academic-focused workshops, by curating activities and facilitating engaging workshops and personalized tutoring sessions designed to enhance participants' knowledge and skills
Practice Classroom management and behavioral management with high school aged youth
Monitor and maintain accurate attendance records from tutorial sessions and other vital documentation
Attend Weekly/Bi-Weekly Meetings with Coordinators and Academic Mentor Program Coordinator/Central Staff
Proficient in ADP and updating timecards in a timely manner
Utilize Salesforce database to track and input participant grades throughout the school year

Position Summary
AmeriCorps EXL offers a meaningful opportunity to support students' academic growth and personal development while being part of a dedicated team making a lasting impact in schools. Students are at the heart of our work. We are seeking proactive, adaptable, enthusiastic, and dedicated AmeriCorps EXL Mentors to support the academic and social emotional development of students in local area schools of Santa Rosa, California. We partner with schools to identify students who would benefit from a positive, adult role model. EXL Mentors play a key role in leading Active Recess activities with students. Each Member is placed at one school site upon hiring to serve for the entire school year (commuting among school sites is not a daily requirement.)
Program Overview
The goal of the AmeriCorps EXL program is to provide comprehensive support to students. All students at the school site benefit from the support of organized, collaborative games and conflict resolution during recess and lunch. Students in need of additional supports will be assessed and assigned targeted services in literacy or math tutoring and/or placed in a social emotional mentoring group.
Essential AmeriCorps Duties
Active Recess:
Active Recess: Structured and organized activities facilitated by adults in order to encourage students in games/sports while building conflict resolution skills during the core day and after school.
Members are assigned a daily game that they facilitate and engage with students, focusing on supporting positive student behaviors.
Academic Tutoring:
Working with students who are academically below grade level in literacy and/or math skills.
Tutoring: Lead daily 30-minute academic tutoring sessions with students 1-to-1, in pairs, or in small groups at least 4 days a week.
Students will attend tutoring for half of the school year.
Lesson plans are created and implemented by the Mentor and/or provided by the teacher or curriculum.
Mentoring Services:
Mentors will work with students who need additional support in skill development, relationship-building, and personal growth.
Lead 30-minute mentoring sessions with students 1-to-1, in pairs, or in small groups; one to two sessions per week.
Mentors will support the same students throughout the course of the school year.
Lesson plans are created and implemented by the Mentor, utilizing provided curriculum.
Expanded Learning Support:
Expanded Learning programs support selected students beyond the classroom, outside the normal school day hours. Expanded Learning programs are often referred to as After School programs.
Support the after-school program, COOL School, through engaging with groups of students during the homework hour, leading physical, interpersonal and enrichment activities.
Members will support the student Spring Break and summer programs.
Member Development:
Participate in training and professional development to improve quality services for youth

Service Commitment I Full Time 900 Hour Member
Full Time, 6-month commitment serving a minimum of 900 hours -

Members are not expected to serve during days their school site is closed according to each district specific school calendar.

The Mentoring and Peer Support (MAPS) program provides mentoring and support to individuals who have an active criminal care and are struggling with one or several of the following: mental illness, a substance use disorder, and/or experience in the armed forces. The goal of the programs is to support client recovery and assist with navigating the criminal justice system. Goals of the program include helping clients to maintain recovery, comply with court requirements and maintain engagement in treatment. Peer Mentors work with client both in the jail and in the community. Peer Mentors are proactive in their outreach to clients, are able to work independently and have excellent communication skills.
MAPS Peer Mentors work with clients individually and in group settings with a focus on peer counseling and support. Mentors are expected to be able to work independently while also regularly communicating with their supervisor and accounting for their time. Mentors must document on all patient encounters in a timely manner and collect data for reporting purposes as directed. Mentors work as a team and communicate with and support other mentors as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Provide regular support to mentees.
Report to and collaborate with the Mentoring And Peer Support (MAPS) program's Program Coordinator and the Deputy Director of Jail Health Reentry Services.
Assist mentees with resource linkage and navigating community resources (e.g., transportation, mobility, housing, decision-making, assistive technology, language, government programs, cultural adjustment, immigration services, food assistance, legal assistance, women's services, medical assistance, mental health services, vocational services, volunteerism, and education programs, and any other services that may support the client on overcoming external barriers to well-being and self-sufficiency).
Conduct outreach to residential, community and hospital settings to connect with mentees.
Provides one on one peer mentoring.
Routinely communicate and collaborate with the client's treatment team (case manager, psychiatrist, etc).
Organize and facilitate support groups in the jail(s), as requested.
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Firsthand understanding of and experience with one of the following: being a member of the armed forces and/or suffering from a mental illness, substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Knowledge of behavioral health issues such as (but not limited to) depression, substance abuse, psychosis or anxiety, and a willingness to share that experience.
Completion of a mental health certificate program or equivalent education, preferred.
Familiarity with various supportive counseling strategies and wellness and recovery principles in working with clients with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring conditions, preferred.
At least 3-5 years of ‘lived experience' with the community behavioral health system and/or the Department of Veterans Affairs, preferably in San Francisco.
Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
Sensitivity to and experience working with the ethnically, culturally, socially, and sexually diverse individuals, communities, agencies, and organizations and persons who have experienced homelessness, incarceration, mental illness and/or substance abuse.
Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team and interact effectively with the medical and criminal justice system as well as community providers in order to facilitate comprehensive mental health care delivery.
