THE OPPORTUNITY Summer Search NYC is seeking a High School Mentor to manage a caseload of approximately 40 high school students, building long-term relationships and providing regular mentoring through a combination of groups and individual conversations from sophomore year through junior year of high school. Joining a supportive program team that will serve over 490 high school students this coming year, this hire will have the opportunity to practice Summer Search's unique approach to mentoring, prepare students for two challenging summer experiences, support post-secondary readiness and matriculation, and join a team that is committed to learning, social and racial equity, and the students we serve. WHAT YOU'LL DO Specifically, the High School Mentor will advance Summer Search's mission through the following job responsibilities:
Student Mentoring and Program Facilitation (60%)
1:1 Mentoring
Mentor a caseload of up to 44 high school participants, building relationships and conducting regular mentoring at school, in our office or by phone.
Utilize a unique mentoring methodology based upon adolescent social-emotional development, cultural relevance, and critical consciousness. Enable conversations that allow students to reflect upon the impact of identities and social/cultural context on their lives.
Hold students accountable to year-round program participation, as well as demonstrating a personal commitment to students that results in a high level of engagement throughout their Summer Search experience.
Monitor and promote students' academic and extracurricular participation and performance, as well as post-secondary readiness requirements.
Communicate with students' families, especially regarding details about summer experiences and career opportunities.
Group Mentoring
Conduct bi-weekly group mentoring sessions for caseload of sophomores and juniors - in person. Build multi-year relationships with participants and cultivate their connections with one another and Summer Search.
Create a safe community where students can be honest with each other by ensuring each student has the space to be heard and challenged respectfully and setting up physical space that is conducive to achieving the objectives of each session.
Recognize a student safety situation and how to respond and care for both the individual student and the group.
Observe and respond to group needs and adapt facilitation style accordingly.
Community Engagement and Partnership (20%)
With School and Community Engagement staff's guidance:
Support and/or lead outreach presentations and application workshops for prospective students and provide 1:1 follow up as needed.
Establish and nurture relationships with staff partners at your partner high school(s).
Engage school partners proactively in supporting students and coordinating logistics.
Respond promptly and thoughtfully to requests from school partners.
Attend key milestone events for participants and their families throughout the school year.
Know the resources and people available at your partner high school(s) and how these resources intersect with Summer Search.
Connect participants to college access partner and mental health and career resources.
Data, Caseload Management and Learning (15%)
Ensure meticulous data collection on a weekly basis in our program database (i.e. Salesforce) to execute organization-wide programmatic metrics, goals and data expectations, such as outreach and mentoring touchpoints.
Provide curriculum feedback to inform iterative curriculum development.
Participate in ongoing observation, coaching, training, and professional development to build job-related skills, knowledge, and capacity.
Participate in elements of an evaluation plan designed to assess program quality, fidelity and outcomes and to inform individual staff development and continuous improvement of program model (e.g., complete feedback surveys after mentoring sessions).
Participate in other projects as assigned.
Engage in Site-Wide and Network Initiatives (5%)
Attend and engage with our regional Signature Events and participant and family events about 3 times a quarter, typically in the evenings.
Support project management of participant-facing events (i.e. orientations, summer celebrations, etc.)
Provide support to the Summer on Call team when issues or concerns arise related to your participants during Summer Experiences.

EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years of professional experience working with student populations served by Summer Search (e.g. low-income families, students of color, LGBTQIA+, English Language Learners, and diverse religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds). Group facilitation experience is strongly desired. Academic or applied knowledge of adolescent development and/or training in restorative/transformative justice work is a plus.
DEPTH MENTORING: You understand and create an environment where all people feel safe enough to explore, discuss, question, and reflect on past, current or future experiences in one-on-one or large group discussions.

LOCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS This is a hybrid role with the expectation of working out of our Manhattan office with presence in the Bronx office required a few times a month for group mentoring sessions. In-office requirements are 2 days a week (with an additional day in office once per month as required for in person meetings) and working remotely up to 3 days a week. In person requirements subject to change based on to program needs. You will also be required to be onsite at our NYC partner schools for student engagement and outreach needs. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS This is a non-exempt position with a starting pay rate of $31.80- $36.66 per hour equivalent to $62,015-- $71,484 annually. Position Summary:
As a Mentor for Middle School Programs, you will design an engaging and intellectually stimulating experience for students while supervising and ensuring the safety of the youth under your care. Reports to: Program Director
Compensation: $22-$24 an hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is an in-person position for the school year from August through June with potential rehire for summer and the following year.

Create a fun, safe, and structured environment for youth which is inclusive to all youth, parents, staff, and key stakeholders.

Success mentors are the most successful strategy for combating chronic absence. The idea is not for a Success Mentor to have the answers, but for the mentee to talk about and explore ideas. Maintain ongoing open communication with school principal, parents, and school-based staff

Assist Outreach Worker with recruiting additional mentors, assigning mentees and monitor mentor and mentee relationships and track mentee attendance
Partnering with families to create family goal plans that increase student attendance and enhance parent and child well being
Maintain written records of home visits, family goals, and all required documentation
Implement attendance incentive programs.
Work collaboratively with community resources and advocate for families when necessary
Refer participants to social worker for counseling to support with crisis intervention and safety planning
Participate in ongoing efforts to advocate for program needs via community coalition building
Seek partnership opportunities and bring in at least 3 new partners a year to leverage resources to support programs
Work closely with social worker, tutor, and outreach worker to support targeted student needs
Attend all required department/ agency meetings and/or trainings

Position Overview
The Success Mentors are an integral part of our El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice team. This will

As a coach, the individual will run twice-weekly soccer trainings and coach the team at weekend games. Receive and reply rapidly to notifications from participating hospital emergency room when notified of an individual being treated for an opioid overdose
Travel to partnering hospital emergency room within 45 minutes of notification to meet with, support, and engage into the Relay program the individual who has survived an opioid overdose
Discuss Relay program benefits and service approach with each individual and explain the evaluation model and informed consent process.
Collaborate with each individual to develop personalized strategies to reduce future opioid overdose risk, including discussion of safer drug using behaviors

Position Summary:
As a Mentor for Middle School Programs, you will design an engaging and intellectually stimulating experience for students while supervising and ensuring the safety of the youth under your care. You will develop a rapport, provide guidance, serve as a role model for youth and assist the Activity Specialist during program activities.
Reports to: Program Director
Compensation: $22-$24 an hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is an in-person position for the school year from September through June with potential rehire for summer and the following year.
Responsibilities:
Create a fun, safe, and structured environment for youth which is inclusive to all youth, parents, staff, and key stakeholders.
Plan, develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum including interactive challenging activities and games that enable the youth to develop core competencies and social emotional skills.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or current college students preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience working with school age children required.
Interest and experience in youth development, academic enrichment and creating interactive, educational/artistic activities.
A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice.
Comply with School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements including background check and medical clearance.

The Senior Peer Mentor provides outreach, engagement, and accompaniment to individuals and families using Next Step programs on-site as well as in the community. The Senior Peer Mentor also engages individuals who have survived an opioid overdose at partnering hospital emergency rooms to provide support, collaborate on tailored strategies to reduce future overdose, train on and dispense naloxone, and assist with connection to any needed community-based services. The Senior Peer Mentor conducts telephone and office-based follow up with individuals recently seen in the precinct or the hospital.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relay Overdose Response Initiative
Receive and reply rapidly to notifications from participating hospital emergency room when notified of an individual being treated for an opioid overdose
Travel to partnering hospital emergency room within 45 minutes of notification to meet with, support, and engage into the Relay program the individual who has survived an opioid overdose
Discuss Relay program benefits and service approach with each individual and explain the evaluation model and informed consent process.
Collaborate with each individual to develop personalized strategies to reduce future opioid overdose risk, including discussion of safer drug using behaviors
Partner with the Emergency Department Warm Handoff Recovery Coach to address the service needs agreed to by each individual, which may include substance use treatment, harm reduction, benefits, or other supportive services
Provide each individual and any accompanying friends/family members with naloxone (Narcan) kit and training or ensure its provision by emergency department staff
Arrange with each individual a 24-48 hour follow up plan
Next Step Recovery Community Center Services
Welcome and engage individuals who are seeking assessment and linkage to services responsive to their individual needs and readiness for change
Provide overview of on-site services and orient Recovery Center members to program guidelines
Conduct naloxone (Narcan) training and dispensing
Accompany participants to other provider sites to provide support and navigation assistance
Reach out to participants to follow up on referrals made and to reengage them into programming

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Peer Mentor (SPM) will support the Transportation Coordinator in managing a grant-funded rideshare transportation program for individuals with a history of substance use disorder. The SPM will be responsible for documenting all transportation services utilized on a weekly and monthly basis and escorting participants to necessary locations across Staten Island when warranted. This role is ideal for a compassionate and detail-oriented individual committed to supporting people in recovery by ensuring they have reliable access to essential services.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transportation Support & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of all rides provided through the program, including dates, times, destinations, and participant details.
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly transportation utilization reports to the Transportation Coordinator.
Assist with tracking program performance and identifying trends in transportation needs.
Communicate with participants about their scheduled rides, ensuring they understand pickup times and locations.
Peer Support & Escorting Services:
Provide in-person escort services for participants who require additional support traveling to appointments, treatment programs, or other essential locations across Staten Island.
Offer peer-based support and encouragement during transit, helping participants navigate barriers to accessing care.
Act as a liaison between participants, transportation providers, and the program team to ensure smooth service delivery.
Collaboration & Advocacy:
Work closely with the Transportation Coordinator and case management staff to address transportation-related concerns.
Advocate for participant needs and provide feedback on ways to improve the program's accessibility and effectiveness.
