Fork Truck Operator - Off Shift - Shipping Team $22.31 Hour to train plus shift differential Opportunity summary: As Forklift Driver in our busy shipping bay or warehouse, you will be responsible for operating industrial forklift to track load and/or unload trucks for delivering the units to customers according to their requirements. You will also keep accurate tally of what is shipped to customers. We are a high-volume manufacturing plant, and you will be part of a team that loads up to 60 trailers a day. You will also be responsible for all activities associated with safely operating the forklift in addition to participating in cross training efforts and sharing duties with other drivers. Our forklift drivers may also operate our banding machines to ensure pallets are ready to load. This is a union facility and we work 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts if OT is required. OT is paid at time and ½ for over 40 hours worked. Our plant is not climate controlled. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: Inspect the forklift daily at the start of the shift ensuring all safety features are operational. Complete checklist documenting inspection. Safely track and move materials throughout the facility safely and efficiently Responsible for the overall safety and cleanliness of the equipment and work area. Assure all materials shipped and warehouse are handled in a manner that prevents damage Load and unload trucks according to department standards and customer demands. Use an RF scanner for receipts of returns or deliveries. Verify all counts, quantities, quality and descriptions of products and materials received, shipped or warehouse are what is expected. Service production lines, delivering products as requested. Properly palletize or shrink wrap a unit. Timely and accurate completion of paperwork associated with the movement of product & materials. Responsible for general cleanliness of the warehouse and loading docks. Perform regular inventory and cycle counts. Safely change forklift propane tanks and/or batteries as needed. Assist other departments as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. What you need to succeed: High School diploma or G.E.D. strongly preferred Must have a valid driver's license Previous forklift experience in a high volume high speed environment Forklift driver certification valid during the last 12 months is highly valued, but we will teach you. Ability to learn proprietary software programs for the Corrugated Manufacturing systems. The Cargo Handler is responsible for ensuring warehouse duties assignments are finalized within the allocated period as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor/ Lead Cargo Handler. The Cargo Handler is assigned duties in the Miami Warehouse from cargo acceptance, build-up, breakdown, scanning, tie-down, and other functions assigned by management, including our Cooler operation. Western Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501 YOUR ROLE Are you known for your equipment operation skills and passionate about warehouse logistics and organization? Do you enjoy working in a clean and efficient warehouse environment? If so, we have an opportunity that would allow you to execute essential operational processes and contribute to delivering results in a safe and efficient warehouse operation. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? * Develop and provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers at all times, such as working collaboratively, providing timely communication and instruction and assisting with operations as necessary. * Execute various manual labor functions such as picking inventory, counting cargo, product and material and hand staging and loading goods; use manual equipment such as hand truck or pallet jack. * Coordinate receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, tools, equipment, and products within assigned area. Prepare and assemble orders, move materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas. * Manage sorting and placement of materials or items on racks, shelves, pallets or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, product code and related characteristics; tend to be more routine or typical. * Opportunity to operate a forklift once certified and required. * Complete or verify appropriate forms, documents, labels and other information to ensure the accuracy of inventory, monitor and track material and successful receiving and/or delivery of goods; tends to be basic information or standard in nature. * Operate hand tools to close or open bales, build or tear down crates, and other containers or material; tends to be more predictable packaging. * Assist with identifying potential operational or service concerns, notify appropriate co-workers and assist with resolving. * Monitor various warehouse maintenance tasks, including sweeping floors, cleaning docks, staging, packing, racking and related storage areas, proper storing equipment, basic preventative maintenance, and related tasks. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? * Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED; * Credentials: Forklift Certification typically required in most operations within 3 to 6 months of hire; Valid state issued driver's license preferred. * Skills: Capable of operating hand and power tools and performing manual tasks; Basic proficiency in operating a computer; Ability to become forklift certified, when required. * Characteristics: Responds promptly and professionally to customer needs; Ability to perform in a team environment.
