ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.:
Contacts and consults with potential employers regarding the development of substantial jobs for qualified deaf/blind workers in collaboration with the Employment Training Specialists and National Business Relations Specialist.
Supports consumers with developing a resume, cover letter, and skills needed to apply for jobs both online and in person.
Obtains employment interviews and assists consumers at the interview, if needed.
Provides vocational counseling and information to consumers as to work skills and appropriate work behaviors.
Facilitates and conducts Work Readiness and Soft Skills training classes for small groups of consumers or one on one in conjunction with the Employment Training Specialists and Case Manager.
Provides systematic instruction for the trainee to learn the job skills at the work site.
Makes job modifications when necessary to allow DeafBlind consumers to perform job successfully.
Provides training to consumers and employer partners in communication strategies on the job.
Assists consumers with self-advocacy regarding their responsibilities and opportunities at the work site including but not limited to identifying and requesting reasonable accommodations.
Provides in-service training to potential employers, co-workers, and support service providers in regard to the consumers' skills, potential, and support needs. Such training can be applied to competitive or supported employment situations.
Provides follow-up services for the employer and consumer in order to achieve a long-term and successful placement.
Works collaboratively with a transdisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals to ensure that consumers receive all necessary training and supports for success in their vocational and personal goals.
Required: Extensive local travel throughout Long Island, New York City, and lower Westchester. Meeting all job duties and responsibilities may require use of personal vehicle.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Social Work, or related degree OR minimum one-year experience working with individuals who are DeafBlind, blind, Deaf or multiply disabled.
Proficiency in American Sign Language and other methods of communication utilized by individuals who are DeafBlind required.
Well versed in or willing to learn and utilize remote platforms, including but not limited to Zoom and GoToMeetings, for instruction, consumer meetings, and staff meetings.

Nurture and support existing employer partnerships and community partnerships for all Y.O.U. programs.

Work Environment

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Education and EmploymentSpecialist will provide education and employment services to youth at-risk of, or currently experiencing homelessness, to assist them in obtaining positive educational outcomes, developing career plans and attaining and maintaining employment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Provide direct education and employment services to youth aged 18 to 25 years.
Work with youth to develop their individualized education and employment case plans.
Assign, administer and review all elements of the education and employment plan; including GED, high school, further education enrollment, career planning, resume writing, interview techniques, life skill development, etc
Develop education and life skill programming specific to job readiness and preparation.
Plan and coordinate guest speakers and workshop presenters.
Supervise and/or facilitate groups and other activities.
Market, develop, outreach and cultivate job and/or internship openings with hiring managers, human resource personnel and business owners for hiring of youth with various employment and educational backgrounds, including ex-offenders
Plan, arrange and oversee outings to education and job fairs, and other field trips
Assist youth in dealing effectively with personal and interpersonal issues as they arise.
Maintain supportive contact with youth who achieve and/or graduate from their education and employment case plan and establish a youth alumni to provide peer support to youth undertaking educational and employment services at SPY.
Assist staff and management in the assignment and coordination of duties and tasks for volunteer involvement.
Prepare month end reports and funding reports and other administrative duties as well as the creation of education and employment development aids.
Participate in staff meetings, team meetings and other community meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.
Requirements
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience in social service setting with youth desirable is preferred, but not required.
Minimum of 2 year experience in an educator or employment services environment is required.
1-2 years of experience with client engagement is preferred.
1-2 years of experience leading workshops in job readiness, employment education, filling our resumes and cover letters is preferred.
1-2 years of experience working in homeless services is preferred.
1-2 years of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is preferred.
Strong computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets and other software systems.
Ability to coordinate and/or oversee the successful completion of projects.
Experience working with homeless and at-risk youth.
Good verbal and written communication skills, including organizational, detail, and interpersonal.
Must have reliable transportation, valid California driver's license and proof of current insurance.

Provides care coordination services including screening, intake, coaching, skill-building, and referral to community agencies for participants
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Engages client in the completion of a vocational assessment for the purpose of identifying skills, education, previous employment history, strengths, and barriers. Assists client in developing an employment and/or educational plan while also collaborating with the mental health team. Develops new business contacts consistent with the consumers' career goals. A minimum of 24 contacts must be made within one month per the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model. Develops job leads for job seekers. Per the IPS model, the employmentspecialist is in the field 65% of their total time, job developing and/or supporting the client. Communicates with Gain Services Worker to inform about clients status pertaining to the employment program. (This duty is specific to the CalWorks program) On an ongoing basis, the employmentspecialist must update the clients employment status documentation and complete a follow along plan Coaches and trains job seekers in job search, resume writing, interviewing skills. Maintains and submits weekly and monthly client/data rosters required per the Individualized Placement Support model. Reports are submitted on a monthly basis to DMH and also play a significant role in annual fidelity reviews. Collaborates with agency staff and community partners to optimize employment and educational results. Accompanies clients to job interviews and provides job coaching at their place of employment Frequently consults with the clinical team to ensure that all mental health concerns are discussed and addressed. Supports the client through transitions and assists with decision making and goal setting every 3 months.
Supports clients through the intake process of accessing Work Source and/or Department of Rehabilitation services. Continues to work closely with the Work Source and DOR. Employmentspecialist carries a caseload of 20+ which may include all three phases of employment within the IPS model. Advocates on behalf of the client with other agencies, government programs and similar to help them receive needed services. Participates in initial intake interviews to gather information and complete required initial paperwork. Sets up and maintains related files and documentation ensuring compliance with policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related field from a four-year university required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
Required to travel extensively (> 50% of the time).
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Spanish/ English bilingual preferred.
Ability to handle confidential information.

COMPENSATION:
$23.88 USD - $28.66 USD
In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is included in this posting. The actual compensation will be determined based on factors permitted by law. The Awesome Things You'll Do
Develops and maintains job bank of active companies for participant placements (particularly in areas of sectoral focus, including Healthcare, Technology, Human Services, and Maintenance/Security).
Analyzes job placements to assess industry/employer/occupational trends and suggests adjustments in employment strategies accordingly.
Develops strategies and mechanisms for contacting potential employers to establish linkages for placements.

• Work closely with the Clubhouse's Intake Staff to arrange and conduct program promotions, assist with gathering referral materials and processing admissions as well as manage a caseload of participants
• Document all correspondence and entering member information into the electronic health record in a timely manner.
• Assist members in establishing member goals using a person-centered approach;
• Engage members in meaningful Clubhouse work during the work-ordered day using motivational interviewing techniques
• Continually engage members in identifying strengths and interest;
• Encourage participation in activities including involvement in health and wellness activities
