How This Role Makes A Difference The RegisteredNurse, Clinical Delivery (RN) in this role will manage the communication of critical and abnormal lab results to patients, ensuring compliance with state licensure requirements. This includes contacting patients, documenting communications, following up on lab escalations, and collaborating with providers to ensure all patient interactions are appropriately managed and documented. This role is also responsible for patient education, ensuring patients understand their lab results and any necessary next steps in their care, as well as providing study specific information that is tailored to the patient. Furthermore, they serve as a point of escalation for the Member Services team, addressing complex inquiries related to lab results and assisting in the resolution of patient concerns by providing clinical insights and ensuring patients receive accurate information and appropriate follow-up. The RN will liaise with the Clinical Conduct Team to investigate and resolve issues related to duplicate lab results or other concerning findings, as advised by the Medical Director. Lastly, they will assist in training and educating the Member Services team to improve patient interactions and enhance service quality. Receive and Review Lab Results from Pre-screening Program: Autonomously evaluate flagged abnormal, urgent, or critical lab findings to prepare them for patient communication, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Patient Communication: Proactively contact patients to discuss abnormal and critical lab outcomes. Ensure focused and uninterrupted communication, adhering to protocols while delivering only legally permissible information within the RN scope of practice. Use communication techniques to convey complex medical information clearly in a way non-medical patients will understand. Understand that the results shared with the patients may have serious health implications for them and relay them in a compassionate manner.

This position is a unique opportunity to provide 1-on-1 care to patients in a specialty area (Therapeutic Apheresis). Our nurses get to work collaboratively with physicians and act as the go-between for the physician and the patient. You will get to travel to different hospitals and Red Cross sites. We do the following procedures: plasma exchange, red cell exchange leukapheresis, stem cell harvests, photopheresis, therapeutic phlebotomies, platelet reductions, and white blood cell depletion.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
You will perform Apheresis procedures autonomously in multiple settings, including critical care, emergency room, and freestanding outpatient centers.
Perform venipunctures, access central venous catheters, and access vortex and Bard ports.
Perform all phases of therapeutic apheresis procedures (plasma exchange, red cell exchange, platelet, and white cell reduction, photopheresis, and hematopoietic progenitor cell collection), to ensure safe and appropriate care of the patient and explain, as needed, the procedures for patients and their family and other attending healthcare professionals.
Act as a consultant to external health care personnel about clinical apheresis.
Assess patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis, prior to and during procedures, utilizing the nursing process, laboratory testing results, and other clinically significant procedures.
Coordinate closely with physicians and nurses at a variety of hospitals to arrange therapeutic apheresis treatments and facilitate coordinated care.
Evaluate patient medication for compatibility and safety of apheresis procedure and determine when to contact the physician.
Assemble, restock, QC, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
The American Red Cross will provide all necessary training. No experience is required.
Standard Schedule: Variable 1st shift Monday to Friday- 40 hrs per week - Rotating on calls
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
Current state licensure as a RegisteredNurse and CPR certification is required.
Bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and work experience.
Two years of experience in medical/surgical or critical care nursing, OR-related experience.
Previous apheresis or dialysis experience is beneficial but not required.
Good vein selection and venipuncture skills are essential.

Customer service experience, effective verbal communication, and public relations skills are preferred.

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Service Director and Bluestem PACE Medical Director, the RN collaborates with other PACE providers. The RN is responsible for: assessing, coordinating, monitoring, and providing health care services and treatment for Bluestem PACE participants; and coordinating quality improvement development, support, data collection and analysis.

Conduct initial comprehensive assessments, unscheduled nursing assessments and participates in IDT.
Facilitates the integration of new participants into the Bluestem PACE health care delivery system including medication, immunizations, and routine monitoring of chronic problems through the health record and nursing care plan development.
Provides a high level of customer service to the participants, families and other employees.
Provides ongoing nursing assessments on a scheduled basis and submits PACE data requirements for caseload participants.
Monitors and delivers routine nursing care; documents progress notes and nursing care plans on a regular basis.
Provides liaison with primary care provider in the event of an episodic illness; assists in coordinating services provided by primary care provider.
Follows established standards of nursing practices and implement program policies and procedures.
Administers and monitors participants' medications prescribed by the physician.
Assists participants in maintaining optimum health; provides health education and counseling to participants and caregivers facing chronic conditions and end of life issues.
Assures nursing services are documented in a timely, legible and accurate manner.
Document care in the participant's medical record consistent with documentation policies and workflows.
Maintains confidentiality of participant information.
May provide basic first aid to agency employees as required by incident or injury.
Actively participates in Case Management. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team; participates in the development of the plan of care. Provides updates to team regarding participants' change in health or functional status.

Job Description

What You'll Do
Prepares patients for examination and treatment including, but not limited to, taking the patient's history, obtaining accurate vital signs, and verifying the chief complaint as needed.

Assists with clinical procedures done by the providers in the office as needed.
Answers triage phone calls by assessing the patient's medical condition and formulating plan based on the level of care required as needed.
Ensures lab results are reported to the patient daily after being reviewed and requested by the provider
Assists with Chronic Care Management, including but not limited to, conducting Pre-visit Chart Reviews as necessary.
Performs patient education and participates in care planning process for chronic conditions both newly and previously diagnosed.
Documents all patient encounters, including face to face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the medical record in a timely fashion. Documents all materials given to the patient in the electronic record.

Must-Haves
Certified as a RegisteredNurse and graduate of an accredited college.

Clinical Duties

Maintain communication with the Directors throughout the camp week
Ensure doctors orders are followed
Throughout the week; ensuring cleanliness and organization, facilitate medication pass, address and log health concerns and facilitate parent communication.
Ensure compliance with all state, local, and American Camp Association (ACA) health and safety regulations.
Keep an up-to-date inventory of medical supplies and communicate with the Operations Director to order replacements as needed.
Work closely with camp directors and counselors to promote a culture of health and safety
Conduct health screenings at the start of the week for campers in all programs and lice checks for Day campers on Mondays.
Infirmary staff members are responsible for dispensing all camper medications and managing camper sickness and injuries. Infirmary staff mostly deal with smaller issues like tick removal, stomach aches, headaches, rolled ankles, etc. Meals and housing for the week are provided by camp. In exchange for working at camp for the week infirmary staff are awarded two weeks of overnight to utilize for either their own child(ren) or their child and friend. Infirmary staff work with a consulting doctor and head nurse to follow best practices and standing doctor's orders.
Infirmary staff stay onsite during the week of overnight camp from Sunday mid-day through camper pickup on Friday afternoon. There are three infirmary staff members working each session of overnight camp and 1-2 for Day Camp only weeks where their is no housing provided.
Schedule: One week during the summer: Sunday 12 pm- Friday 5 pm.
Qualifications
License in the medical field of LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) equivalent or higher. All certifications and licenses should be current and in date for the state of North Carolina.
Minimum age 18 required
CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Certifications required.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service to all parents and participants at all times
Ability to work with children and adults
Possess strong written and verbal communications and a sense of responsibility
