Pros of working at Mercy Health

Working for a nonprofit (an illusion, the Mercy Youngstown Physician PSC operates like most for-profit entities and places a heavy focus on administrator/management desires - NOT a physician-forward organization).

Cons of working at Mercy Health

Management is abusive, inflexible and causes such high turnover in the market that I witnessed 6 young physicians out of residency come and go the very instant their 3 year contract expired (several left prior to that and paid back nearly $100,000 in incentives... that should speak volumes about how much doctors truly hate being here). Older private practice doctors (truly stalwarts to the community hospital) were bought out and each retired within a year - I know and talked with them all, they never intended to retire, Mercy forced them out.

Mercy Health benefits

It is near my home and a nonprofit. I will slug along until PSLF but every single day I am looking for new opportunities elsewhere because professional growth within Mercy Youngstown Physician group is not possible for free thinkers that are focused on providing care for patients rather than operating on an assembly line because management read Toyota's LEAN. Further, they tend to carry the model of vertical integration which creates a giant vacuum sucking critical services from the local community hospital into the city of Youngstown itself. We have watched Bon Secours pillage since taking over what was once run by the Sisterhood.

What do you like best about Mercy Health's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing. Not a single redeeming quality.

How would you improve Mercy Health's culture?

Clean house of administrators / management and allow physicians / nurses to take over the organization along with the nuns.

How does your compensation at Mercy Health compare to the industry average?

They pay physicians SIGNIFICANTLY less than CCF / UH / Summa (though Summa is now for profit). You have to claw back every single wRVU that should be paid to you in the first place by jumping through their hoops. The juice is NOT worth the squeeze.

What's the diversity at Mercy Health like?

This is one of the most diverse organizations I have worked for - the many varying levels of incompetence and prevalence of Dunning-Kruger within management demonstrates Mercy's commitment to DEI initiatives.

What brings you the most joy at Mercy Health?

Leaving for home.

Pros of working at Mercy Health

Environment and staff are very nice and we have great team work here. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with those who have not been in the medical field as long as I have!

Cons of working at Mercy Health

The only disadvantage to working at this clinical laboratory is that this is a new and start up facility. It has been wonderful to se the work load and environment grow. Busier is better!

Mercy Health benefits

I enjoy the PTO as other facilities stat PTO at unjustifiably low hours , in my opinion. I am not one to call in sick HARDLY EVER but do enjoy my time away to be with our grandchildren!
