2002

Work on the $55 million, five-year initiative commenced in 2002.

Merit Health Central became the first hospital in the state to introduce a pediatric hospitalist program in 2002.

In 2002, Merit Health Central became one of the nation's first hospitals to add a PET/CT scanner to its nuclear medicine department to enhance its cancer and cardiology programs.

2003

A medical breakthrough took place at MeritCare in 2003, when the da Vinci Surgical System was used to perform robotically assisted open-heart surgery.

Merit Health Central celebrated the expansion and creation of several services in 2003, including a new, beautifully renovated and expanded 14-bed pediatric unit.

In 2003, with a major investment in the fiscal plant and new leadership, many improvements were implemented at Madison County Medical Center.

2004

2004: In May 2004, an expansion of the hospital's dialysis Unit enabled six patients to be acutely dialyzed at one time.

In 2004, Merit Health Central became the state's first medical facility to offer digital mammography combined with a special computer-aided detection system, for its extensive women's services program entitled Sorella - A Comprehensive Breast Health Center.

Also in 2004, a Balance and Hearing Center was created, and the telemetry unit was expanded to a 22-bed transitional care unit.

2005

A special milestone was reached in 2005, with the 100th anniversary of The Lutheran Hospital Association’s formation.

2005: Rankin Medical Center experienced significant development for future growth by adding a fourth anesthesiologist, a general surgeon, a new family physician, and two new inpatient hospitalists.

2006

2006: Rankin Medical Center was named one of the Best Places to Work in Mississippi in the Large Business category in the inaugural year of The Mississippi Business Journal's program.

2007

August 2007 introduced The Women's Pavilion at Merit Health Central.

In October 2007, Merit Health Central added The Joint Center to its list of services.

2008

2008: Rankin Medical Center changed its name to Crossgates River Oaks Hospital.

2009

Construction of Madison River Oaks Medical Center began in 2009.

2011

After much anticipation, the doors opened on May 23, 2011 to receive the first patient.

2011: The Joesph M. Still Burn Center at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital expanded the state of Mississippi's only inpatient burn center by adding at 15-bed burn intensive care unit and burn step down.

2012

On December 17, 2012, Merit Health Central opened the area's first ACE (acute care for the elderly) inpatient nursing unit.

2015

In 2015, the facility joined six sister hospitals in Jackson-Vicksburg to rebrand as Merit Health.

2015: Crossgates River Oaks Hospital became Merit Health Rankin.

2017

In 2017, Merit Health Madison opened its new on-campus medical office building.
