Merrick & Company is looking for an Electrical Designer II in our Tulsa, OK; Greenwood Village, CO; or Richmond, VA offices. The position of Electrical Designer will be responsible for designing power systems primarily for Heavy industrial facilities, Oil, Gas & Chemical projects. This position's responsibilities include complete electrical designs performed at the drawing level. Assists Project Engineer with drafting responsibilities and some design. After an initial training period, this position has the possibility of being hybrid - part time in the office and part time from home.
The pay range for this position is $32.84 - $42.45 per hour. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Apply knowledge of building systems
* Utilize working knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to: NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; ASHRAE 90.1; and Building Codes
* Assist the Lead ElectricalEngineer or Senior Engineer with working with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate systems/products are utilized.
* Design power distribution, panelboard schedules, grounding/protection designs.
* Coordinate the connections of all power utilization.
* Document calculations, reflecting code compliance of lighting calculations, power load calculations, and voltage drop calculations.

We are seeking a Protection & Control Settings Engineer with technical experience in the application of protection settings for HV substations for power utilities and for the interconnection of renewables and data centers. In this role you will support the delivery of substation projects for electric utilities, contractors and developers.
This position can be worked out of our Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Austin offices.
The opportunity:
Perform system protection setting calculation, development of relay logic diagrams, and protection coordination on various substation projects up to 500kV voltage level.
Develop design basis documentation for protective settings, relay settings calculations and generate native relay configuration files using SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista and/or similar vendor software.
Apply industry standards for the protection of system equipment, including power buses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders.
Perform power system modeling and protective relay coordination analysis using ASPEN OneLiner or Siemens CAPE, ETAP, SKM, and/or CYME software.
Prepare design calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over-current element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay loadability calculation.
Provide engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations.

The skills:
Bachelor's degree in ElectricalEngineering from an accredited university.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
Proven 4+ years experience in development of protection relay setting for transmission substations.
Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements as they pertain to electric utility reliability requirements.
Experience in power systems modeling and protective relay coordination analysis using ASPEN OneLiner or Siemens CAPE, ETAP, SKM, CYME software. Ability to perform Arc Flash and other power system studies is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret protection single lines, three lines, schematics, functional diagrams, etc.
Experience with IEC61850 and its implementation is preferred.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed, to achieve agreed goals and results.
Excellent communication skills - able to interact with clients, regulatory bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to represent the company credibly.

Position Overview
We are seeking an Aviation Staff Engineer in our Orlando or Tampa office to support our Southern Region and national aviation projects. You will be working as part of a team assisting in the coordination of projects from conception (feasibility) through final plan preparations. This position is diversified with time being spent on hands-on horizontal airfield design and construction inspection. This opportunity will allow you to interact with customers, FAA/DOT personnel, permitting officials and multi-disciplinary C&S teams.
This is a full-time position with a focus on airfield design and construction of horizontal airfield projects offering competitive compensation, great employee benefits and an outstanding work environment. You will support the development of engineering plans utilizing CAD software including 3D models, engineering reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
Position Responsibilities
Coordinating with sub-consultants, interpreting design standards, attending client meetings and coordinating multi-discipline teams.
Collect and prepare data for evaluation.
Opportunities exist to lead/support other projects in offices across the country.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or associated field

AutoCAD experience
EIT preferred
Solid analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills.
Resourceful and self-motivated.
Solid organizational skills with a focus on details.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
