Typical annual pay range for this position is $121,700.00 - $160,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing team, you will work in a dynamic multi-discipline environment, accountable for the oversight of engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, mechanical engineering budget and schedule management, maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel as required by projects. The Engineer will work with other engineering and technical personnel to ensure overall project goals are met. You will have responsibilities in the following areas:
* Application of knowledge in Food & Personal Care, Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, Manufacturing and Industrial facilities/systems (Conceptual Design):
* Ensure understanding and compliance with owner's requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.
* Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, ASME, API, PIP and NFPA.
* Given the scope of design services, the owner's facility standards, and relevant industry standards, establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.
* Develop scopes of work based on RFPs and pre-bid meetings with clients.
* Work with owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options as necessary.
* Design:
* Interpret scopes-of-work and translate them into executable project plans.
* Manage project mechanical engineering and design team and oversee all aspects of the mechanical scope related primarily to equipment and piping.
* Perform and document engineering calculations related to mechanical engineering for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.
* Perform sizing and selection of equipment and systems.
* Oversee piping group activities related to mechanical equipment, piping and 3D modeling to support mechanical deliverables.
* Ensure mechanical activities follow QA procedures.
* Perform pipe stress analysis utilizing software such as CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.
* Work with the project team to design a cohesive, technically acceptable, and optimized piping system.
* Perform detailed reviews of piping isometrics, piping plans, pipe specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents.
* Mentor other mechanical engineers and designers.
* Construction Support:
* Contribute to the preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment datasheets.
* Oversee problem solving efforts for field oversights and addressing RFI's.
* Perform field inspections and review of reports.
* Profitability:
* Complete project within provided budget and prepares Change Orders when scope is expanded.
* Planning/Scheduling:
* Provide direction for what is to be included in bid package issue.
* Work with Project Engineer/Manager to ensure that project schedule will be met, and complete documents provided for each deliverable.
* Professional Development:
* Maintain required licensing CEU.
* Actively seek in-house and external training to maintain and update skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from ABET accredited program required.
* Twelve (12)+ years industry experience.
* Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.
* Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.
* Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.
* Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II.
* Significant experience designing and installing retrofits and upgrades at manufacturing and industrial facilities.
* HVAC and plumbing design for industrial facilities.

+ Development of mechanical equipment and piping material specifications

+ Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID's, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.

+ Works under limited supervision.
+ Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
+ Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
+ Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing workload forecasts, design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
+ Creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards
+ Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
+ Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
+ Preparation of project specification and contract documents
+ Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
+ Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US mechanical and industrial infrastructure

**Qualifications**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
+ 4 years of relevant experience in industrial facility mechanical engineering
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ 6+ years of experience preferred
+ PE License or EIT
+ Demonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pneumatic conveying, dewatering)
+ Familiarity with diverse metallurgy
+ Demonstrated experience with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applications
+ Experience with HVAC and/or other similar building system
+ Experience with Hydrogen production facilities, thermal power generation
+ Experience executing work in 3D model environments
+ Experience with Smart P&ID's
+ Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)
+ Experience with bulk material handling
+ Strong knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis
+ 2+ yrs experience as project technical mechanical lead
+ Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
+ Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
+ Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
+ Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME)

**Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:**

+ Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data. Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and detailers/designers.
+ Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
+ Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.
+ Participate in the development of PFD's and P&ID's
+ Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design.

**Required Education/Experience**

* Application of knowledge in Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, and Industrial facilities/systems (Conceptual Design):
* Ensure understanding and compliance with owner's requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.
* Confirm and reviews applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, ASME, API, PIP and NFPA.
* Given the scope of design services, the owner's facility standards, and relevant industry standards, establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.
* Work with facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost- effective systems and equipment are utilized in their facility.
* Work with owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options as necessary.
* Design:
* Perform and document engineering calculations related to mechanical engineering for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.
* Perform system and equipment selections.
* Perform sizing of equipment.
* Provide input to piping group related to mechanical equipment and in doing so establishes the appropriate level of detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost.
* Schedule mechanical equipment data sheet and specification reviews.
* Ensure project specifications are complete and accurate.
* Perform pipe stress analysis utilizing software such as CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.
* Work with the project team to design a cohesive, technically acceptable, and optimized piping system.
* Perform pressure vessel calculations utilizing software such as PV Elite.
* Performsdetailed reviews of piping isometrics, piping plans, pipe specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents.
* Construction Support:
* Responsible for problem solving for field oversights.
* Responsible for vendor drawing/Submittal review.
* Perform field inspections and review of reports.
* Responsible for addressing project RFI.
* Profitability:
* Complete project within provided budget and prepares Change Orders when scope is expanded.
* Planning/Scheduling:
* Provide direction for what is to be included in bid package issue.
* Work with Project Engineer/Manager to ensure that project schedule will be met, and complete documents provided for each deliverable.
* Professional Development:
* Maintain required licensing CEU.
* Proactively attempt to receive in-house/out-of-house training to maintain and update skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.
* Experience working successfully in a collaborative environment.
* 8+ years industry experience.
* Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.
* Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.
* Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.
* Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Merrick & Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design of projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This Mechanical Engineer will be based in any of our Energy, Manufacutring & Bioprocessing offices which include Ellicott City (Baltimore), MD; Newport News, VA; Tulsa, OK; or Chattanooga, TN. This position will be eligible to work a hybrid (home/office) schedule.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Participate with the mechanical design team and the multi-disciplinary project team, to execute the conceptual and detailed mechanical design of complex manufacturing processes and facilities in markets such as food & beverage, personal care, bioprocessing, advanced technology, specialty chemicals, automotive, heavy manufacturing, and power.
* Complete detailed engineering calculations to size equipment and pipe systems, , specifications, technical reports as required, vendor coordination, and work with designers to produce detailed 3D CAD models and construction drawings.
* Perform site inspection, construction support, testing, and commissioning of equipment and facilities as required, which may include travel within the United States.
* Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable codes and standards for the design and construction of industrial processes, systems and facilities.
* Develop and maintain skills in required software packages including AutoCAD, REVIT, and Plant 3D.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Institution required.
* A minimum of four (4) years related experience.
* Experience in aspects of mechanical project design including planning, calculations, equipment selection, schematic design, production of construction documents (drawings and specifications), and construction administration is a strong asset.
* Experience in Industrial manufacturing design and construction knowledge.
* Proficient in report writing including basis of design reports, specifications, field reports, etc.
* Candidate must be able to travel.
* Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Demonstrated experience in as many of the following areas as possible is an asset: Building HVAC, industrial ventilation, utilities systems and piping, and plumbing.
* Licensure as a Professional Engineer preferred. If the candidate is not currently licensed, they must demonstrate a plan and ability to obtain licensure within two years of joining Merrick.
