Professional Tutors in the Writing Center provide assistance to student writers at all levels of ability, in all disciplines, at any stage of the writing process. This is an academic year/part-time (20 hours/week) position.
Position Summary
Professional Tutors in the Writing Center provide assistance to student writers at all levels of ability, in all disciplines, at any stage of the writing process. They provide specialized assistance to graduate students. Professional Tutors in the Writing Center supervise peer writing consultants on evening shifts and assist them when working with challenging sessions. They establish and maintain a collaborative and cooperative relationship with the larger Academic Success Center staff, school advising centers, faculty, and the wider college community. This position reports to the Director of the Writing, Tutoring & Math Centers.
Responsibilities:
Conduct writing consultations with students to identify and address writing concerns in a manner consistent with Merrimack College Writing Center policies and procedures
Attend staff meetings, contribute to staff meeting planning, and otherwise serve as a resource to undergraduate staff
Assist with monitoring and managing scheduling system and shared writing center email inbox
Collect/develop student and staff resources (handouts, research guides, etc.) and stay up-to-date on field practices and developments
Supervise undergraduate peer writing consultants on evening shifts
Write promotional materials (website copy, brochures, etc.) and advertise graduate writing support to campus community through various channels
Liaise with instructors and other campus support to identify student needs and develop programming
Provide administrative support as needed/assigned
Assist with tutor training and recruitment, including conducting observations of undergraduate staff
Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
MA in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or related discipline
Familiarity with MLA and APA styles/documentation
Ability to engage in dialogue rather than ‘correcting' student writing
Excellent writing ability and interpersonal skills
Tutoring experience, experience working with multilingual writers
Teaching experience at high school or college level, supervisory experience preferred

The program is designed to offer both a part-time and full-time and Advanced Standing Track for students. We plan to launch a comparable online MSW program effective Fall 2026.
The faculty member will teach a total of 32 credit/contact hours (8 courses) across the fall, spring, and potentially during summer semesters. Faculty are expected to teach on-campus
courses in the evening after 4:00 pm. Online courses will be asynchronous and synchronous. It is critical for the faculty to possess confidence and skill teaching and advising adult learners. The successful candidate should demonstrate the experience or ability to teach a range of courses in social work discipline including but not limited to: Introduction to Social Work Research and Practice, Evaluation of Social Work Practice, Contemporary Social Welfare Policy, and other related courses. The faculty will be responsible for providing formal on-campus and online teaching, effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising, mentoring, and supervision of graduate students, attending faculty meetings, and completing social work programmatic tasks, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.
Required Qualifications:

The Graduate Assistant Residence Director is responsible for assisting the programmatic, supervisory and operational needs of the Residence Life and Housing Office, specifically in conjunction with one residence hall building on campus. Ensures a safe and secure environment at the Amherst College Museums (Beneski Museum of Natural History, Mead Art Museum & Russian Cultural Center). Summary of Responsibilities:
Gallery Patrols

Facility Patrols
* Staff regular patrol shifts (non-gallery areas) as a Museum Security Officer
Special Event Supervision and Setup
* Assists the museums with special event management and monitoring. Ensures occupancy limitations are not exceeded, and ensures all aspects of the event are adhered to (proximity to artwork, no food areas, etc.)
* Assists with setup and breakdown of special event items (clearing gallery furniture out of program spaces and moving in special event tables, chairs and other items as needed
Administrative
* Completes activity logs, documents incidents through detailed reports, conducts email correspondence as needed. Documents items through photography
Conducts all duties for the Lobby Attendant position as needed (primarily during non-academic periods)

This position supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services by providing the campus community with excellent service through the quality production of our menus. This individual produces menu components from ingredients and is proficient in the technical skills and knowledge required to achieve this, being well-versed in food, its history, and trends. The work schedule varies and corresponds to the College's operational needs, but generally 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm. On Campus MSW Program:
Aligned with the mission of Merrimack College, the Master of Social Work program is an on- ground advanced generalist program and is accredited by CSWE. It represents a dynamic, innovative, and growth-oriented training program with a commitment to working with vulnerable and marginalized populations; and affirms the values of self-determination, sustainability, and community and global solidarity. The program is designed to offer both a part-time and full-time and Advanced Standing Track for students. We plan to launch a comparable online MSW program effective Fall 2026.
The faculty member will teach a total of 32 credit/contact hours (8 courses) across the fall, spring, and potentially during summer semesters. Faculty are expected to teach on-campus
courses in the evening after 4:00 pm. Online courses will be asynchronous and synchronous. It is critical for the faculty to possess confidence and skill teaching and advising adult learners. The successful candidate should demonstrate the experience or ability to teach a range of courses in social work discipline including but not limited to: Introduction to Social Work Research and Practice, Evaluation of Social Work Practice, Contemporary Social Welfare Policy, and other related courses. The faculty will be responsible for providing formal on-campus and online teaching, effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising, mentoring, and supervision of graduate students, attending faculty meetings, and completing social work programmatic tasks, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program or equivalency as defined by CSWE
Doctoral degree in Social Work or an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in a related field
Minimum 2-years full-time post MSW experience in social work practice
Minimum of 3 years of on-campus and/or online teaching in a MSW program
Preferred qualifications:
LCSW/LICSW with minimum 2-years post MSW clinical practice and supervision experience.
Experience with online platforms for course delivery and assessment.
Experience working with and/or teaching about multicultural populations, immigrant populations, or underserved communities.
