Position Description The Field Mechanic position is the backbone of the Ajax Equipment Division. The technician is responsible for maintaining the fleet, performing repairs, performing preventative maintenance activities, and inspecting equipment. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Field Mechanic directly reports to and is accountable to the Equipment Maintenance Manager. REQUIREMENTS: A. EDUCATION Minimum of two years' experience in field repairs of Roadway machinery. B. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Note: The following duties are descriptive and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Major duties include the following: 1. Maintain a clean, safe, work truck 2. Make necessary repairs/services to equipment 3. Follow a weekly repair schedule as directed 4. Accurately record time and materials on work orders 5. Adhere to the Ajax culture of teamwork, dedication, and safety 6. Start and end on time 7. Must have own tools 8. Uphold a high level of customer service D. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL 1. Abide by all rules listed in the Ajax employee handbook. 2. Insure all Ajax quality standards are met. 3. Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental Rules and Regulations. E. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Shop/Field Conditions - Work is exposed to outdoor conditions at times, noise and heat. 2. Ability to workdays, occasional weekends & on call nights as required. F. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The essential function of this position includes sitting, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, low level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking. G. CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS This position demands an individual with the following personality traits: 1. Accurate and well organized 2. Self-motivated 3. Ability to work well with subordinates, peers and supervisors 4. Good communication skills 5. Ambitious H. ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY 1. Reporting to work on time, after lunch, and not leaving early unless authorized. 2. Always providing proper notification and advance notice of absence. 3. Not abusing or taking advantage of personal days off. 4. Performing such other duties as may be required.
