Versatile across the stack and eager to work with new technologies and domains.

Software Engineer, Resilience San Francisco
Persona 4.3
San Francisco, CA jobs
Persona is the configurable identity platform built for businesses in a digital-first world. Verifying individuals and organizations is harder - but more important - than ever, with AI enabling fraudsters to launch sophisticated accounts at scale and regulations evolving rapidly.
We've built Persona to support practically every use case and industry - that's why we're able to serve a wide range of leading companies. We're growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join us!
About the role
This isn't just another engineering role. This is a unique opportunity to be a founding member of our new Resilience Engineering function and shape the future of performance and scalability at Persona. As our products grow in complexity and adoption, we're building a specialized team to act as a force multiplier for all of engineering. You won't own a single service; instead, you'll be a trusted partner embedded within product teams, tackling their most critical challenges in performance, scalability, and observability. We're looking for someone who is a systems thinker, part detective, part diplomat, and part architect, and who's ready to help build a new function from the ground up.
What you'll do at Persona
Partner with product teams on short-term, high-impact projects to solve their most pressing performance and observability challenges.
Dive deep into major incidents to uncover underlying architectural causes and drive systemic improvements to prevent future failures.
Design, build, and promote reusable resilience patterns and tooling that make it easy for all engineers to build reliable services.
Own and advance our observability strategy, defining the standards and building the tools that help us understand system health.
Mentor and coach engineers across the organization, raising the technical bar for performance and reliability.
Establish and drive a new Operational Excellence review process to foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Help define and measure SLOs for our most critical user journeys, making our product tangibly faster and more reliable for customers.
What you'll bring to Persona
A strong software engineering background, demonstrated by 7+ years of experience building and shipping complex production systems.
Direct experience in performance, scalability, or observability is a significant plus, but not required for a candidate with a deep engineering foundation.
Enjoys mentoring other engineers and can clearly and concisely explain complex technical ideas.
Deep expertise in the three pillars of observability (metrics, logs, and traces) and experience in instrumenting complex, distributed systems.
The ability to listen with empathy, build trust, and influence other teams without direct authority.
Ability to build robust, well-tested libraries and tools that improve the work of other engineers.
Takes Initiative, comfortable with ambiguity, and effective at driving projects in a new and evolving environment.
Full-time Employee Benefits and Perks
For full-time employees (excluding internship and contractor opportunities), Persona offers a wide range of benefits, including medical, dental, and vision, 3% 401(k) contribution, unlimited PTO, quarterly mental health days, family planning benefits, professional development stipend, wellness benefits, among others. Platform Software Engineer
Conversion 4.2
San Francisco, CA jobs
About Us
Conversion is building the AI-native marketing automation platform for modern software companies. Today, marketing is stitched together from outdated software, enrichment tools, and disconnected workflows. Funnels are broken. Messaging is misaligned. Most teams are flying blind.
We're fixing that. Conversion lets growth teams build and automate their entire go-to-market motion in one place. From acquisition to activation to retention, it's all managed in a single interface: fast, personalized, and powered by AI.
We've raised over $28 million from top firms such as Abstract Ventures, True Ventures, and HOF Capital. We're at $5M+ ARR, growing quickly, and powering go-to-market for 4000+ customers.
We're a lean, high-performing team in San Francisco. If you're excited about building creative, modern, product-led marketing and doing your best work alongside world-class teammates; we'd love to meet you.
Over $28M in funding
$0 to $6M ARR in under 12 months, 4000+ customers
Elite team from Airbnb, Palantir, Pinterest, IMC Trading, Shopify, Linkedin, Microsoft, and more
About the Role
Hey there! James here 👋, co‑founder and CTO at Conversion. Just wanted to share my thoughts on the perfect candidate we're looking for to join our engineering team.
First off, I want to stress the technical difficulty and scale of what we're building here at Conversion. The reason marketing automation platforms haven't seen a new player in decades is because building one is hard. Our platform needs to handle gigabytes of data syncs per customer with the utmost reliability, coordinate complex workflows that automate mission critical "go‑to‑market" processes, handle form submissions that directly generate revenue for customers, and serve high delivering emails to millions of our customer's recipients.
With that being said, here's what we're looking for in a platform software engineer to join our core team:
Engineer multiplier: You know how in Candy Crush you can hit a 2x multiplier? We believe it's the same analogy for platform engineering: your customers are our product engineers, and the goal is to unlock and empower them to build features to serve our customers best.
Intellectually curious: Conversion engineers are a group of bright‑eyed and constantly curious individuals, who love debating database designs (or if we'd win in a fight against an ostrich) at lunchtime.
Pragmatic optimizer: Over‑optimizing is a real thing. As a startup, our goal is to grow and build an amazing product that delivers value, not to needlessly upgrade our tech stack for the sake of doing so. Your job is to strike the fine line between the cost of implementing infrastructural changes vs. the potential benefits. Everything's a trade‑off, we want to take the worthwhile ones.
This role is in‑person 5 days/week in San Francisco.
You Might Be a Good Fit If You
Have experience building out cloud infrastructure, dev‑ops, and platform features at other fast‑growing companies
Have experience with our tech stack: Golang in the backend, a job queuing system with Kafka, PostgreSQL as our database and cloud hosting with GCP
You Might Be a Great Fit If You
Developer tooling fascinates you
Track record of side projects, apps, hackathons. Our engineers have built a live streaming security system for their parent's new house, a database from scratch, a better "Splitwise" app, and hosted our Minecraft server, all while at Conversion!
