Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) delivers mission-critical applications for top enterprises worldwide, operating in more than 50 regions. Beyond public cloud, OCI is expanding into dedicated, hybrid, multi-cloud, and edge deployments. Within OCI, the Technical Strategy & Oversight (TSO) organization builds the foundational systems and frameworks that power our most demanding tier-one services. From high-performance primitives to a next-generation runtime, TSO is where OCI's boldest infrastructure initiatives begin. One of those is Autonomous OCI - a greenfield effort to redesign the kernel and runtime of the cloud itself. Today's hyperscaler model grows linearly with people; every region or feature adds manual operations and cost. Meanwhile, demand for AI, GPUs, sovereign, and dedicated regions is accelerating faster than humans can scale. Autonomous OCI breaks this curve by making services fast, resilient, and self-healing by default, enabling OCI to scale to thousands of regions efficiently. The payoff: faster time-to-market, higher margins, and a durable competitive edge. As the Director of Engineering, you will build and scale the team delivering the Light-weight Infrastructure (our next-generation runtime for compute, networking, storage, telemetry, and governance) at the core of Autonomous OCI. You'll collaborate with senior architects and leadership, onboard OCI services to this new stack, and help define the primitives - compute, storage, networking, telemetry, identity - that will shape the future of cloud. This is a rare chance to do career-defining work in a greenfield initiative, with the autonomy and support to succeed. **Who are we looking for?** You've led high-scale cloud infrastructure services, balancing business impact with deep technical excellence. You know how to grow and guide globally distributed teams while owning the design, delivery, and operation of mission-critical systems. You are technically strong, with experience building services that are highly available, scalable, and resilient - and you pair that with the judgment to balance new feature delivery with incremental improvements. This role blends technical depth with organizational leadership. You'll mentor and scale managers and principal engineers, while also rolling up your sleeves when needed to dive into architecture, design, or execution. If you're energized by the chance to shape a 0→1 greenfield initiative and define the future of cloud infrastructure, this role offers both the scope and impact to do it. **Responsibilities** **Responsibilities:** + Define and drive the technical, product, and organizational strategy for one or more charters within Light-weight Infrastructure (Core Compute, Connectivity & State, Observability & Governance). + Lead a diverse, globally distributed team to design and deliver 0→1 services that form the foundational layer of Autonomous OCI. + Hire and develop top engineering talent (both managers and ICs) to build a high-performing team. + Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and high professional standards. + Communicate effectively across the organization - from engineers to architects to executives. + Mentor teams through architecture and security reviews. + Establish practices that drive continuous improvement in engineering execution, leadership, and technical excellence. **Qualifications:** + Minimum of 4 years at a senior management level, with experience of managing managers and staff engineers. + 7+ years of relevant distributed systems or cloud services experience. + BS, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar degree. + Strong business and communication skills. + Exceptional leadership and people management skills. + Solid understanding of core cloud infrastructure, such as compute, virtual networking and storage. + Strong distributed systems architecture and design skills. Meet the Team Join the core Hypershield Data Plane team within Cisco's Security Business Group-an industry-first effort redefining how modern distributed security is built. We are engineering the data path for a highly available, AI-designed security fabric that protects applications across public clouds, private data centers, and physical environments. This team is building segmented firewalling directly in the data plane-a first-of-its-kind innovation not available elsewhere in the industry. Engineers on this team get end-to-end ownership of packet processing systems, deep exposure to DPUs (AMD), NPUs, and P4, and the opportunity to shape foundational architecture in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment. If you want to work on the core of the data path, build something new, and learn deeply from day one-this is the place. Your Impact In this role, you will design, build, and optimize the data plane for Cisco Hypershield using C++, P4, and hardware offload technologies such as DPUs and NPUs. You'll work hands-on with AMD DPU specifications, packet processing pipelines, and performance-critical components from day one. Success in this role means operating in a fast-paced model-quickly absorbing the architecture, contributing to data-plane development immediately, and delivering reliable, high-performance code with minimal hand-holding. You will: * Design and implement data-plane features using P4, microcode, and C++ across DPU/NPU architectures. * Bring up hardware platforms, integrate SDKs, and debug low-level packet-processing behavior. * Work from AMD technical specifications to define and build performant pipelines. * Collaborate closely with internal teams (control plane, management plane, platform) to deliver end-to-end datapath functionality. * Drive system-level architecture discussions and influence design choices for high-throughput and low-latency packet processing. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. * 7+ years of experience in packet processing (e.g., DPDK, TCP reassembly, high-throughput pipelines). * Programming experience in C/C++ and experience with P4 or microcode/U-code development. * Experience bringing up platforms or ASICs in Linux-based environments. * Hands-on experience building or leveraging hardware acceleration with DPUs or NPUs. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working with AMD DPUs, Broadcom, Marvell, or Intel data-path hardware. * Deep understanding of P4 compiler behavior, pipeline stages, and programmable switch architecture. * Experience with performance analysis, tuning, and optimization of high-throughput systems. * Prior background in designing test harnesses, working with third-party SDKs, or hardware debug. * Experience owning features end-to-end in a distributed or high-availability networking product.
