This Metallurgical Engineer is a dynamic position whose function is to develop metal 3D printing processes to enable materials that are currently challenging to print to be printed successfully. Working closely with the Process Engineers, the Metallurgical Engineer will work as part of a team to develop the next generation of AM materials for aerospace and related applications. The Metallurgical Engineer will be an expert in process-microstructure-property relationships in AM of aerospace alloys, will set up and manage a materials characterization facility which can match the turn-speed of the AM machines, and will manage relationships with Universities and National Labs who are needed to support the organization. The Metallurgist's responsibilities include the following:

Serve as metallurgical subject matter expert for the company

Use knowledge of materials science to develop new materials and processes for the AM industry

Set up a metallurgical characterization facility, and work as part of a team to characterize material produced by L-PBF and EBM processes

Lead external research and development programs contributing to improved materials for AM Manage metallurgical engineers and technicians, and be responsible for metallurgical lab equipment and performance

Develop materials characterization methods to support the company's metallurgical needs

Main Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering 2 Years of metallurgical experience in industry or research labs Hands on experience with metals characterization techniques, including optical microscopy, SEM, chemical analysis Experience in developing automated analysis techniques, and automating report generation Data analytics experience


Preferred Qualifications:


Masters degree in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering 5 Years of metallurgical experience in industry or research labs Project management experience AM L-PBF and EBM process experience Experience with Python or equivalent programming languages

Metallurgical Engineer

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Metallurgical General Supervisor of the Metallurgical Lab, the position's primary responsibility will be at the Leaching and L-SX-EW Operations with some oversite from time to time at the Milling and Flotation Operations. The position will also be responsible for evaluating process data, metallurgical testing and continuous process improvement on the milling, flotation or the SXEW plant.

Position Responsibilities:

Analyze LSXEW or Concentrator performance by calculating reagent use, sampling process stream, checking the mill circuit, flotation circuit, inspecting process controls, and analyzing performance.

This position requires the following:

Good oral and written communications skills. Capable of training and development of plant operators. Able to analyze and determine correctness of daily metallurgical reporting. Conduct metallurgical accounting for the plants; and Develop and implement optimization and cost reduction strategies on plant consumables.
Ensure that work practices within the concentrator, filter plant, and tailings areas, and L-SX-EW areas comply with company, local, state, and federal safety, and environmental standards. Able to account, track and predict copper recovered from Leaching pads. Experience in solution mining techniques. Conduct and interpret daily break time tests, mixer optimization for extraction efficiencies and provide recommendations to operations based on these results. Interact with workforce and Human Resources, Purchasing, Accounting, etc., to ensure compliance with established company policies. Assist in training and mentoring of junior metallurgical engineers in gaining new skills and achieving their full potential. Report results from testing and evaluation to Metallurgical General Supervisor and Metallurgical Manager. Substitute as Control Room Supervisor position as needed. Be familiar with all aspects of the Metallurgical Technician job and help out when the need arises


Education and Experience:


Bachelor's in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering as minimum. Master's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering will be preferred. Six -7 years of mineral processing experience in operations or equivalent metallurgical laboratory experience. Experience with leaching & SXEW operations and SAG milling and flotation is required or a willingness to learn such skills in hydrometallurgy. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook and other metallurgical modeling software. Strong background in statistical analysis of process or experimental data as applied to process improvement or willing to learn such skill.

Role Summary
Albemarle is looking for an experienced metallurgical engineer to join a multidisciplinary team in their efforts to execute multiple activities required to evaluate the feasibility of reopening a brownfield site for spodumene concentrate production.
The Site Metallurgical Engineer (Dry processing) will initially support the studies focused on flowsheet development for a new spodumene concentrator. This role is expected to transition during construction to support the commissioning of the plant, and once in operation, be responsible for the metallurgical performance of the feed end of the plant, including crushing, screening, ore sorting and dense media separation.
This role will also provide technical assistance to our operated and joint venture operations, support due diligence of potential growth targets and introduction of new technologies across Albemarle's global lithium business.
This position is part of the lithium resources organization reporting to the Group Metallurgist. The position is based in our Kings Mountain, North Carolina location. Periodic travel within the USA and internationally may be required.

Essential Functions
Oversee metallurgical test work for flowsheet definition and equipment selection.Support ore characterization and build an understanding of its potential impact on plant design and performance Help build the foundation for the process performance monitoring strategy to be set up at the new concentrator Support development and implementation of metallurgical accounting for the site, including sampling strategy and flows characterization.Leads procedures development for the commissioning of a new Spodumene concentrator with emphasis on crushing, screening, dense media separation, and magnetic separation.Assist in the evaluation of capital projects and technology introduction across the organization when required Maintain liaison with the different groups involved in the new site project

Competencies
Experience in crushing, screening, ore sorting, dense media separation, magnetic separation, grinding and classification Solid knowledge of mineralogy, ore characterization, and geometallurgy Experience with metallurgical testing, flowsheet development, equipment selection and sizing Experience in the safety management of processing plants and associated facilities Strong business, project and technical metallurgical and processing acumen Strong problem solving and analysis skills Supervisory experience preferred
