Your Job Responsibilities
- Performs medication reconciliation by interviewing patients/caregivers
- Works with pharmacists to obtain complete medication lists
- Performs duties listed below as needed
• Answers the telephone and front window.
• Compounds products in IV Lab using sterile, aseptic technique
• Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by pharmacist prior to dispensing.
• Maintains clean and orderly work area; restocks returned medications, restocks work area to appropriate levels.
• Assists in maintaining inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies by notifying purchasing when items become low or increased usage of particular items in observed: utilized the “short list”.
• Maintains drug storage systems through restock and trouble-shooting functions
• Maintains Unit Inspections outside the department
• Makes scheduled rounds to all nursing units for the delivery of medications and the pick-up of discontinued medications and orders as needed.
• Makes non-scheduled rounds to any nursing unit as required.
• Perform charges and credits for floor stock sheets, narcotic sheets, miscellaneous charge slips, and returned medications into computer system.
• Processes medications in assigned area (OR, IV lab, first fill) in preparation of final dispensing by the pharmacist.
• Trains new employees as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned

Manipulate and dispense hazardous and non-hazardous medications per department procedure. Apply critical thinking in all situations, seeking guidance from other technicians and pharmacists as required while achieving an appropriate level of independence.
Achieve and maintain competency in at least one specialized pharmacy function, including but not limited to: vaccine administration, pharmacy buying, specialty pharmacy fulfillment, drug diversion management and REMS programs.
Specialty Technicians: Serves as a liaison between physician clinic staff, specialty pharmacy, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a strong and collaborative partnership between the businesses. Identifies opportunities for the Stormont Vail Specialty Pharmacy to partner with prescribers in the development of new initiatives and avenues of service.
Manage and maintain medication outdates for assigned areas as required. Receive and stock the daily medication order from drug wholesaler. Operate the point-of-sale system to ring out customer transactions, including making change when required.

What you will do
In addition to pharmacy tech 1 essential duties and responsibilities, must meet qualifications to check the work of other technicians when applicable (Tech-Check-Tech).
Manipulate and re-package hazardous and non-hazardous dosage forms following procedure.
Specialized training & competency in hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding as assigned.
Competency in at least one decentralized pharmacy space (OR, ED, etc.) in addition to basic central pharmacy operations or the assigned area.
Specialty Technicians: Serves as a liaison between physician clinic staff, specialty pharmacy, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a strong and collaborative partnership between the businesses. Identifies opportunities for the Stormont Vail Specialty Pharmacy to partner with prescribers in the development of new initiatives and avenues of service. Complies with HIPAA/HITECH regulations.
Specialty Technicians: Ensures accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into various systems; verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, days' supply, supplies, insurance, and physician data. Reviews all pertinent medical documentation from physician offices and other healthcare facilities, and clarifies prescription orders with pharmacist and/or clinician as appropriate. Works with payers to resolve insurance related issues, assists patients with financial assistance as needed.

* Functionality requiring additional competency above Tech I, may require less supervision than a Tech I
* Autonomous responsibility either with record keeping or as a single point of contact outside the department
* Advanced technology expertise and ownership
* Delegated functions of pharmacy leadership (manager or lead technicians)
* Timely and accurate preparation, delivery to the nursing units/appropriate departments & storage of medications, including (when appropriate) the use of technology to do so, varies by location.
* Ensuring accuracy of one's own work as well as the maintenance of required competencies, and other documentation. Must reflect consistently departmental quality improvement and patient safety standards, programs and initiatives. 10%
* Ongoing professional development and growth, leads by example, perpetuates accountability, manages own time.
* Communicate effectively, develop positive working relationships and role model teamwork that reflects the Texas Health Promise Behaviors. Trains new employees on routine tasks, under the direction of designated personnel.
* Manages own time and shares the responsibility for minimizing pharmaceutical costs (including wastage) and discovering new process efficiencies. Validates competency completion for new employees.

Here's What You Need
* High School Diploma or Equivalent required
* RPhT - Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire required
* Sterile IV Certification highly preferred
* Prior inpatient hospital experience highly preferred
* Proficiency in written and verbal English language, computers, the ability to adapt to various software systems, and basic math including conversions, proportions, ratios, and algebra.
* The ability to work alone and as part of a team.
