Your Job: The Pharmacy Technician will assist in performing paraprofessional tasks that will ensure a high quality of pharmacy service. Your Job Requirements: • High School Diploma or Equivalent required • IV certification preferred • Registered technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy or Pharmacy student current Pharmacy Intern License • 1 year of Pharmacy experience preferred • Hospital Pharmacy experiences preferred • Computer skills preferred, but not required • Ability to maintain confidentially and patient privacy standards set by the department as well as hospital Your Job Responsibilities • Answers the telephone and front window. • Compounds products in IV Lab using sterile, aseptic technique • Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by pharmacist prior to dispensing. • Maintains clean and orderly work area; restocks returned medications, restocks work area to appropriate levels. • Assists in maintaining inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies by notifying purchasing when items become low or increased usage of particular items in observed: utilized the “short list”. • Maintains drug storage systems through restock and trouble-shooting functions • Maintains Unit Inspections outside the department • Makes scheduled rounds to all nursing units for the delivery of medications and the pick-up of discontinued medications and orders as needed. • Makes non-scheduled rounds to any nursing unit as required. • Perform charges and credits for floor stock sheets, narcotic sheets, miscellaneous charge slips, and returned medications into computer system. • Processes medications in assigned area (OR, IV lab, first fill) in preparation of final dispensing by the pharmacist. • Trains new employees as assigned. • Other duties as assigned Methodist Mansfield Medical Center is a 262-bed, full-service, acute care hospital serving Tarrant, Johnson, and Ellis counties in North Texas. The Investigational Drug Service (IDS) Advanced Pharmacy Technician will work primarily at the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital (CUH) Investigational Drug Pharmacy, Aston Investigational Drug Pharmacy and other UT Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center campus in the Dallas area. In addition to performing the duties of an experienced infusion pharmacy technician, duties include: Compounding hazardous sterile and non sterile products; Research drug procurement; Temperature monitoring; Order receipts; Drug accountability; Research billing; Study site initiation visits and monitor visit preparations; and Preparation of research medications. JOB SUMMARY Works under moderate supervision to provide technical and supportive skills in operation of pharmacy. This position will be for all positions in varying shifts first, second and third. Receives incoming calls and prioritizes bases on urgency or nature of requests. * Audits and signs out all controlled substances in accordance with state and federal guidelines and organizational policies. Identifies and corrects discrepancies and reports unusual usage pattern and trends. Completes medication area inspections. Removes and documents expired medications. * Assists with ordering, managing and monitoring drug inventory in a fiscally responsible manner and is cognizant of appropriate PAR levels in all medication storage areas. * Enhances personal growth and development. Participates in educational programs, in-services and meetings. Is a knowledge and training resource for specific areas of responsibility and routinely works to improve these areas. * Participates in new employee orientation and training. * Treats co-workers and organizational and departmental property and resources with respect. What You Will Do * Timely and accurate preparation, delivery to the nursing units/appropriate departments & storage of medications, including (when appropriate) the use of technology to do so, varies by location. * Ensuring accuracy of one's own work as well as the maintenance of required competencies, and other documentation. Must reflect consistently departmental quality improvement and Patient Safety standards, programs, and initiatives. * Ongoing professional development and growth, leads by example, perpetuates accountability, manages own time. * Communicate effectively, develop positive working relationships and role model teamwork that reflects the Texas Health Promise Behaviors. Trains new employees on routine tasks, under the direction of designated personnel. * Shares the responsibility for minimizing pharmaceutical costs (including wastage) and discovering new process efficiencies.
