The Perioperative/PACU RN needs a working knowledge of anesthesia medications and antagonists with the understanding and ability to skillfully administer pain control medications and be able to titrate doses to outcomes. There are several responsibilities a PACU nurse needs to perform in a post-operative unit such as guiding patients to consciousness and assisting them in handling personal needs in the first few hours after surgery. The nurse will embrace, support and adopt evidence-based care standards and continuing education that ensures quality improvements and patient safety regulatory requirements for best practices. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
* Collaborates with the Team Lead to manage flow throughout the designated area of the ED to ensure forensic patients are expeditiously seen and/or moved into the treatment area and wait time minimized.
* Coordinates care by assisting the forensic patient with referrals for appropriate medical, psychological, advocacy and legal follow up as well as accepting referrals throughout the network and from outside agencies scheduling of forensic health care appointments.
* Consults and coordinates with health care team members throughout the network to provide comprehensive care and education of this patient population and staff.
* Assess for mandatory reporting status, report when appropriate and assist nursing/medical staff with education regarding reporting guidelines.
* Complete and document a medical legal history precisely and accurately in a timely manner while maintaining compassion and confidentiality.
