Education Qualifications Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on the job training in ultrasound that led to registry. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients. Introduces self to patient, properly identifies patient utilizing two identifiers, and explains the ultrasound examination being performed. Selects proper imaging transducer and equipment and operates effectively, efficiently, and safely. Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed. Coordinates examinations by priority while efficiently performing exams in a sequence which minimizes the patient's stay in the hospital. Demonstrates knowledge of proper low-level and high-level disinfections process and performs necessary cleaning and disinfection process of all equipment as required by hospital protocol. Responsible for completion of mandatory educational assignments and competencies as assigned by manager. Participates in training of colleagues and sonography students as directed. Demonstrates knowledge of and performs department exam protocols. Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination. Accurately enters required data into Lumedx (PACS) system. Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned. Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination. Disinfects equipment and area. Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed. Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care.
