What you will do
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations using sonographic skills to identify, document, and adapt examinations as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic criteria.
Uses independent judgment during the ultrasound exam to accurately obtain diagnostic images necessary to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings and communicates findings to the interpreting radiologist.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients. Introduces self to patient, properly identifies patient utilizing two identifiers, and explains the ultrasound examination being performed.
Selects proper imaging transducer and equipment and operates effectively, efficiently, and safely. Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed. Coordinates examinations by priority while efficiently performing exams in a sequence which minimizes the patient's stay in the hospital.
Demonstrates knowledge of proper low-level and high-level disinfections process and performs necessary cleaning and disinfection process of all equipment as required by hospital protocol.
Responsible for completion of mandatory educational assignments and competencies as assigned by manager.
Participates in training of colleagues and sonography students as directed.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position.
Displays a professional appearance.

* Primary duties include the following:
* Reviews ultrasound images with sonographers upon completion of their clinical examination for appropriateness, image quality, and protocol completion.
* Reviews patient clinical history, including signs and symptoms, to ensure complete patient history and aid in appropriate billing of examination.
* Reviews prior relevant reports and images including prior ultrasounds, CT's, or MRI's.
* Provides scanning assistance for technically challenging and/or complicated exams. Authorizes patient release or rescan patient to resolve diagnostic questions.
* Provide real-time quality assurance feedback, and coordinate department-level quality-improvement initiatives.
* Synthesizes sonography examination results and prepare draft report in the departmental dictation or reporting system.
* Assists with new sonographer onboarding and trainee education.
* Helps communicate new service line and protocol changes to ultrasound staff and/or providers.
* Participates directly in advanced techniques such as contrast-enhanced, 3D, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

* Ensures the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant clinical information, and meets the standard for "medical necessity". As necessary, acquires additional images to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
* Must be virtually self-supervising. Must be able to read, interpret and report ultrasound examinations.
* Adheres to applicable professional and ethical standards. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
* Provides patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Sonographer. Excepts as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.
* Equipment use and maintenance
* Exercises responsibility to ensure that the ultrasound equipment is functioning accurately. Shows ability to troubleshoot quality control procedures to ensure that the ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels to ensure patient safety and high image quality.
* Conducts sonography examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
* Provides education and training to sonographers in the utilization of new equipment features/benefits or scanning techniques.
* Directly oversees use/performance of advanced ultrasound techniques such as 3D ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, elastography, peripheral vascular Doppler, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
* Shows proficiency in post-processing of 3D data for volumetric and multiplanar assessment.

Job Summary: The OB/MFM Sonographer Tech performs ultrasound procedures to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment. The OB/MFM Sonographer Tech specializes in diagnostic sonography procedures and possesses a technical expertise. The position provides assistance to support ancillary personnel.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
* Performs procedures as ordered to obtain sonographic images according to department protocols and within allocated time provided to complete quality exams.
* Screens and interviews each patient using designated clinical assessment forms to record information.
* Performs ultrasound procedures to include properly positioning and/or immobilizing patients on exam table, uses appropriate probes and equipment for the exam, observes patient during scans and monitors and reviews video display making the appropriate adjustments to improve picture quality and/or audibility.
* Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to determine satisfactory diagnostic picture quality and audible sounds. Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in the sonographic procedures in the proper sequence.
* Understands and uses PACS, EMR, and other software related to job responsibilities.
* Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacture guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and takes action for abnormal results. Reports equipment problems and/or failures to Bio-Med and Team Lead or Manager.
* Prepares exam room and equipment by following proper cleaning and disinfecting guidelines. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in the exam room.
* Maintains yearly competency training, mandatory District education, professional certification, State licensure, and education requirements throughout employment.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Associates Degree in Sonography or a related field. OR
* Certification from an American Medical Association (AMA) school OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) approved educational programs. AND
* Must be certified by ARDMS (OB/GYN Ultrasound) upon hire OR achieve certification from ARDMS within 12 months of the hire date.
* Current JPS-recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* 1 plus year OB sonogram work experience.
* Certified in Fetal ECHO, Nasal Bone measurements, and Cervical Length Education and Review (CLEAR) certification.
