Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Sterile Processing Tech (SPD) to join our sterile processing team! Position Summary: The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager. This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential Functions Statement(s) 1. Possesses knowledge of sterile techniques, instrumentation, identification and use, and understands the importance of infection prevention 2. Ensures equipment is cleaned, inspected, tested, and maintained according to principles of sterile technique, thereby consistently maintaining instrumentation and documentation needed for caseload 3. Troubleshoots problems related to equipment, supplies and service. Takes appropriate corrective action when break in technique occurs and informs the appropriate personnel 4. Exercises caution when using chemicals/cleaning fluids that are toxic or caustic and ensures that solid/infectious waste is collected and delivered to collection area in a timely manner in accordance with MSDS and OSHA regulations 5. Monitors operative schedule and communicates with vendors and representatives to ensure required supplies and implants are available for continuity of provisions of services 6. Responsible for maintaining State and Federal sterility paperwork and other needed documentation to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations 7. Regular and predictable attendance 8. Essential Job Functions * Decontamination: rendering contaminated instruments and medical services safe for handling. Demonstrates consistent utilization of PPE and standard precautions. Demonstrates appropriate handling of instruments and appropriate use of equipment. Disposes of trash and used linens in an appropriate manner. * Instrument assembly: assembling instrument sets for surgery and specialty trays for use where required. Loads information on stamps, and demonstrates appropriate handling of sterile items. * Picking Cases: Utilizes the computer for printing surgery schedules and pick sheets. Demonstrates ability to use appropriate size case carts and to follow supply list accurately.
