    Under supervision, to perform work involving providing support and assistance to the MRI staff and Manager in the performance of their duties, specifically with training, Quality Improvement, and continuing education issues. Works closely with the Sub-section Chief (Radiologist) and directly with the Manager of MRI dept. to ensure the efficient daily operation of the MRI dept. Tech interacts with co-workers, Physicians, patients and nursing units, displaying appropriate Guest Relations. Responsibilities PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions) Assesses the exams performed on an ongoing basis, and provides findings and results as appropriate. Assists Leadership in collecting departmental CQI, Radiologist CQI, and ACR in the appropriate time frame. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, to operate all types of departmental equipment, and perform all types of MRI procedures, taking into account patient's age, physical mental and emotional condition, 100% of the time. Informs Leadership of all equipment malfunction and initiates appropriate service calls and maintains documentation of same. Learns office procedures so that direction and assistance can be given to technical and office staff in the absence of the manager. Assists with orientation and training of technologists on the proper use of all equipment and new procedures instituted in the department. Guides and directs employees as needed to ensure that services to patients and other customers are maintained at an optimal level at all times, while conferring with the radiologist or physician requests for supplies required for special procedures. Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned. Assists physicians with biopsies and other invasive procedures, utilizing the modality as guidance and maintaining sterile technique. Review and correlates patient exam orders with patients current history and prior exam history to ensure that the appropriate exam is being performed. Verifies correct transfer of images and exam information through PACS and RIS for interpretation by the Radiologist ensuring correct charging. Maintains the Magnet and radio-frequency protection of all patients and visitors at all times. Administers contrast materials in the prescribed dose in accordance with dept. policy. Qualifications Education All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University. Additional education or experience may be substituted requirements on a year for year basis should the substitution not conflict with State or Board certification/license requirements. Responsibilities PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions) * When assigned to work in a room, performs radiologic procedures with all x-ray equipment only when requested by a physician. Introduces self to patient and fully explains the exam prior to the start of the exam. Obtains proper patient history, including previous allergic reactions, history of allergies, menstrual history, other information that is appropriate to the patient's safety, as well as necessary clinical information. Positions the patient in the x-ray equipment for each view by using the proper technique (MA, time, KVP) in order to reduce radiation exposure, while using proper shielding, collimation and immobilization devices as indicated for each age specific group. Calls Bio-Medical Engineering and Plant Operations about malfunctions in equipment, and reports all equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Delegates workflow fairly while verifing orders, and conferring with physicians when the orders are unclear. Guides and directs employees as needed to ensure that services to patients and other customers are maintained at an optimal level at all times, while conferring with the radiologist or physician requests for supplies required for special procedures. Orders department supplies from the storeroom weekly, and monitors radiology specialty supplies to inform Tech IV and/or Supervisor of any shortages. Participates in the departments quality improvement program. Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned. Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Minimum Requirements) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Demonstrated clinical competency in the field of radiology. Developed verbal and written communication skills required, and strong interpersonal skills a must. A high degree of independent action and exercise of judgment is a must, along with a creative ability. Ability to work under required deadlines and schedules while being flexible to handle special requests and projects. Ability to multi-task under stressful situations, and ability to professionally handle stressful situations. Ability to provide compassionate patient care. Ability to direct the work of others. Must be detailed oriented. EDUCATION All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University. Additional education may be substituted for experience requirements should the substitution not conflict with State or Board certification/license requirements. Associates Degree Radiology Required EXPERIENCE 4 years Imaging Related experience Preferred LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Active IN Radiologic Technologist License Required ARRT (R) Radiology Registration through The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required Basic Life Support Certification Required STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR Meets the Standards of Behavior as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code.
