1924

The company was founded in 1924 by Learoyd and Ashton L. Carr.

1933

MIT is also one of the first to register under the Securities Act of 1933.

1940

MIT’s trustees play a critical role in drafting the Investment Company Act of 1940, which forms the backbone of financial regulation in America.

1959

By 1959, the Massachusetts Investors Trust fund had become the largest mutual fund in the United States.

1969

In 1969, MIT was reorganized as Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS) to reflect the firm's broadened scope of products and services.

1982

In 1982, the company was acquired by Sun Life Financial of Canada.

1998

In 1998, MFS Chairman and Chief Executive, A. Keith Brodkin died, causing a major shift in top management.

2010

MFS is named 2010 Equity Manager of the Year by Global Pensions magazine.
