Self check outs and very angry customers.
Make self checkout optional for customers because they took out their disapproval of them out on the cashiers.
The team at Michaels was nice and everyone got along and enjoyed joking around. If there were any issues it was sorted out as soon as possible.
The location and discounts were great.
The store was severely under staffed and I was not given adequate training. This resulted in having to handle situations I was not trained to handle and with no management available to help me. I only stayed three months. I would have loved the job if I'd had adequate training.
I like the clientele! It's fun to help people come up with creative solutions to their creative project ideas.
I loved the manager who hired me. When she quit, I knew it was because of the management over her.
A cleaner store with equipment that works and high enough pay would help immensely. A snack and pop machine that are stocked and an organized break room with a working clock and comfortable seating would make breaks more restful.

I see what the expectation of upper management are and it looks good sounds good but the assistant managers some work hard while others spend their time bullying and humiliating staff members a lot of racism
By hiring people who love their job and care for customers sending under cover shoppers to see for themselves the discrimination that goes on

I liked most of my coworkers and most of my managers. Level headed people to work with who has good work ethic.
Awful entitled customers. A couple of passive aggressive managers who were just as much of Karens as the customers. They claim “workplace diversity” to seem inclusive on paper, but I had one manager who was so ableist it wasn’t funny. Not to customers, but to us as employees (me and another coworker are autistic and were talked down to whenever we tried to communicate how our diagnoses might affect our work). Not to mention, incredibly passively unaccepting of differences in sexuality/gender expression, despite the fact that they say they are on paper. Michael’s *claims* to care about individuality of their workers, but it’s pretty apparent that this is just a trap to make you feel comfortable. Don’t fall for it. Tried to explain myself to a manager after I came off a little cold because I’m diagnosed autistic and was told, word for word, “Whatever you think your diagnosis to be, don’t let it happen again”.
My favorite perk was quitting the job. Never even used my 30% discount.
They’re good at making it initially seem like they care, I guess. That has to be worth something.
Make sure Michael’s is just as concerned about disabled and diverse customers as they are about disabled and diverse workers.
I spent my time researching the company to ensure I had an idea of not only what would be expected of me in my position, but to know the company history so I could better relate to my employer.
I was paid minimum wage, so not great. That’s just how the cookie crumbles. What I was paid was nowhere near compensating the amount of work expected of me.
It is non-existent. Like that’s the most simple thing right there; It isn’t real. They just put it on paper to make themselves feel good. In my time working for Michael’s, I struggled to find the means to go to very necessary doctor appointments, being a disabled individual, because god forbid they realize they can have disabled workers.
Quitting. The best day of that job was going in and letting my boss know I was preparing to leave. That felt better than eating a whole tub of ice cream by myself.
The people are great
There is not a lot of work life balance with the new work from home system. Longer hours and higher expectations. Also consistent changes in management. The health insurance is also crummy for the cost. No copays and is an 80/20 split.

payed minimum, little to no hours unless your a manger, to demanding with employees even so most of the people i work with only get 8 to 12 hours a week. management say's they care for there employees but if that were true they wouldn't give them such low hours and demand to much from them.

I worked as a custom framer so I really loved working with my hands and making something beautiful with the client as a team
Tbh the pay wasn’t enough at 10.50 an hour. I also did not like the inconsistency of my schedule.
The discount on Craft supplies and I met some amazing people while I worked there.
Friendly and comfortable work environment.
Customers can be extremely rude, and the constant going back and forth to put away items and fix isles that you just touched up 5 minutes ago is exhausting. Also, at my location it seemed that only managers can work full-time, and there's so many part-time employees, that getting hours can be difficult.
Pays alright.
I love being around the products and helping guests find what they need. I like the busy environment and great coworkers. The laxed dress code is a major plus.
The company cares more about revenue than their employees. The customers are horribly entitled and no how much you cater to them and go above and beyond you still get cussed out. Upper management does not support you, it's the customer first. Makes for high turnover rates. They have a “Michael's Cares” program for employees, but that is set up for extenuating circumstances. They could care less about your day to day. Furthermore, all the employees are spread thin and there is never enough employees on the floor. Too many tasks and not enough people.

There was a great family atmosphere among most team members. Raises were awarded for hard work. My boss was one of the best, and always thanked the lower-level people for their work when the day was done.
Assistant manager and one of the department managers teamed up and were harassing workers. It turned into a big corporate intervention once workers decided to fight back.
