The Honolulu House Museum is a unique structure built in 1860 for a former diplomat who tried to live here as he had in Honolulu.
The first Michigan tourism promotion can be traced all the way back to 1873 - but the format and scope looked a lot different than it does today.
“With the rapid development of all forms of transportation, Michigan, through the media of national advertising and more effective distribution of printed matter will be in a position to capture its share of this expanded market,” one 1945 report reads.
Eventually, the campaign transitioned into "Water-Winter Wonderland” to market Michigan as a four-seasons state, and the license plates changed to reflect that in 1965.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation secured funding to fulfill existing campaigns through the end of 2019.
