Position Summary
The Director of Rural Medicine Programs plays a key leadership role in the development, direction, and management of MSU-CHM's rural medicine pathways, ensuring successful recruitment, admissions, and curricular programming for the Rural Community Health Program (RCHP), Rural Physician Program (RPP), and Rural Premedical Internship Program (R-PIPE). This position also provides faculty support, student mentorship, and coordinates outreach initiatives to enhance the college's rural medicine efforts. The Director will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and rural health partners to promote the mission of rural medicine, while also contributing to research and academic initiatives that improve rural health outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities
45% Program Development and Leadership
* Direct and support the MSU-CHM Leadership in Rural Medicine programs, including the Rural Community Health Program (RCHP), Rural Physician Program (RPP), and Rural Premedical Internship Program (R-PIPE), covering recruitment, admissions, curricular and extracurricular programming, mentorship, and marketing.
* Develop and implement recruitment strategies for rural campus initiatives and the Leadership in Rural Medicine Programs.
* Collaborate within MSU-CHM's rural campus system to foster partnerships with faculty, students, staff, rural health systems, and rural communities across Michigan.
* Support rural pre-matriculation programs by assisting with recruitment and programming initiatives that prepare students for rural medical education.

35% Instruction, Mentorship, and Faculty Development
* Develop and direct all LRM certificate programming and courses and provide small group leadership for the RCHP cohort and R-PIPE program.
* Recruit and train faculty to support rural certificate programming and lead small group activities for RCHP and other rural-related courses.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to students in rural programs, ensuring their academic and professional development in rural medicine.
* Partner with the Director of Rural Mission Pathways to align and enhance shared programming.
* Serve as the Instructor of Record for all certificate programming and courses, as a small group RCHP leader, instructor for R-PIPE programming, and provide education re: rural disparities and rural medical education to all students.

* Serve as a college representative to external partners including colleges and universities, students, health system partners, and communities to strengthen partnerships, develop shared initiatives, and advance the reputation of MSU-CHM's Leadership in Rural Medicine Programs.

Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts (LSWA) seeks a qualified candidate to supervise its student-led literary and arts journal. Each year, LSWA, a first- and second-year living-learning program focused on writing chip hartke and the arts, publishes the journal, which showcases LSWA students' best work over the academic year--poetry, fiction, nonfiction, screenplays, drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture, and graphic arts. In addition, LSWA publishes regular features showcasing student work on its online blog and its Instagram feed. The editorial staff is comprised of 8-18 first- and second-year students, who solicit work from their peers, read and evaluate manuscripts and art submissions, help manage online and social media content, and contribute to layout and design.
The journal advisor helps to organize the student staff and works closely with the Editors-in-Chief. The advisor meets with the students weekly and helps with student submissions, leads discussions on journal criteria and on the manuscript selection process, manages acceptances and rejections, oversees online content, and helps plan student readings and events. The journal advisor also works with the Editors to negotiate with printers, manage the budget, and assist students in the development of layout and design. Hours vary week to week, but generally fall between 3-10 hours a week, including some evening hours.
Qualified candidates should have experience with publishing a literary journal and have a strong commitment to the literary arts and to undergraduate education. They must be fluent with such software programs as In-Design and PhotoShop. Teaching experience is not required but some form of mentorship experience is preferred.

UHC provides direct patient care through its primary care and specialty clinics, as well as public health, epidemiologic surveillance, health education and promotion.
Position Summary:
The Health Data Analyst will join a dynamic and collaborative team of data analysts, clinicians, epidemiologists, and information technology (IT) professionals. The analyst manages, analyzes, interprets, presents and visualizes clinical, public health, financial and operational data from a variety of data sources in order to improve healthcare and public health activities at the university. This position collaborates across campus with clinical, analytic, IT and public health professionals to improve health care and public health at the University of Michigan.
Responsibilities*
The primary duties are data extraction, cleaning, analysis, visualization, reporting and communication using the electronic medical record and various health databases and data warehouses as data sources.
Data Management, Analysis, and Reporting (90%)
* Extract data from medical records and other data sources (including but not limited to Wolverine Wellness, Michigan Housing, DPSS, Office of the Registrar). Ensure workflow integrity by using secure connections at all opportunities.
* Design and implement health-related surveys.
* Respond to data inquiries from health and wellness leadership, UHC clinicians and counselors, and others in the health and wellness portfolio.

Duties & Responsibilities:
* Review a selection of Coding work to ensure accuracy and identify missed query opportunities.
* Give regular feedback to Coding staff to help them improve the accuracy of their work, reflecting the complexity of patient care and hospital reimbursements.
* Continuously check the quality of clinical documentation to find incomplete or inconsistent records and create training programs as needed.
* Develop and coordinate training programs on coding compliance, including proper documentation, accurate coding, trends found in chart reviews, audit findings, and regular coding updates.
* Identify and address missed query opportunities for Coding/CDI staff.
* Train new Coding staff on proper coding procedures.
* Review and provide documentation to support appeals for DRG denials from third-party payers to prevent financial loss.
* Implement corrective action plans and educational programs to prevent future denials and rejections, including writing letters to the AHA and CMS for coding advice and recommendations.
* Suggest changes to ICD-10 codes by writing recommendations to the AHA.
* Conduct chart reviews and respond to coding requests from UMHS staff.
* Review updates in Coding Clinics and the Federal Register and share these updates with the team.
* Troubleshoot and resolve MiChart billing issues related to inpatient coding.
* Check clinical documentation for signs, symptoms, lab results, diagnostic info, and treatment plans to create appropriate queries for clinicians.
* Use 3M 360 Code Audit and Prebill tools during audits to ensure accurate data reporting.
* Support changes in documentation processes, like improving EHR data capture or redesigning templates.
* Identify documentation trends to be shared with clinical services and physician advisors for clinician education.
* Prepare specific documentation examples and PowerPoint presentations for clinical teams and departments.
* Stay updated with the processes, tools, and applications needed for job functions.
* Participate in the Michigan Quality System/Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and apply Lean Thinking concepts to daily tasks.

Required Qualifications*

Key duties involve assisting with research participant coordination, participant interactions, data collection, and general team support. The position is term-limited based on the current funding period (ending August 2027), and continuation is subject to additional funds.
