Position Summary
The MSU Field Crops Pathology Program is seeking a motivated and highly organized Research Assistant to help manage, coordinate, and conduct disease-focused field research across Michigan's major cropping systems. The Chilvers Field Crops Pathology Program investigates diseases of soybean, corn, wheat, barley, and dry bean-combining field and laboratory research to advance disease management strategies and improve crop productivity. Position Responsibilities:
* Work cohesively with the field and laboratory teams-including a field Research Assistant, lab Research Assistant, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers-to organize, design, plant, maintain, and harvest field research trials.
* Coordinate and conduct disease scouting, plant vigor assessments, and treatment evaluations throughout the growing season.
* Collect, organize, summarize, and analyze experimental data; contribute to reports, summaries, and extension materials.

Minimum Requirements

In collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) and the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), the successful candidate will lead CIGLR's portfolio of research in atmospheric science in the Great Lakes region.
The successful candidate will lead research that requires integral approaches to water cycle predictions, ecosystem management, and climate research to support decision making in mitigation and adaptation strategies in the Great Lakes region. The candidate is expected to collaborate with diverse experts in the Great Lakes science community to advance model coupling with lake dynamics, understanding and modeling of boundary-layer processes (e.g., evapotranspiration, wind wave formation), and atmospheric microphysical processes (e.g., aerosol formation, snow characteristics). We are particularly interested in candidates who can lead research on predictions and projections for precipitation, runoff, water quality, ice cover, hazardous weather events such as lake-effect snowstorms, as well as advancing understanding of historical and future changes in the Great Lakes regional climate.
The successful candidate will be appointed with CIGLR, which is part of the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. CIGLR is a partnership between the University of Michigan and NOAA that brings together experts from academia and government research labs to work on pressing Great Lakes environmental challenges. The Khan Lab investigates the metabolic reprogramming that drives liver cancer, with a special focus on HKDC1 and its role as a novel therapeutic target. We use state-of-the-art molecular, metabolic, and translational approaches to uncover metabolic vulnerabilities in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and develop first-in-class PROTAC degraders for targeted therapy. The research assistant will play a central role in supporting ongoing projects through experimental work, data analysis, and lab operations. - Perform laboratory techniques including mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, immunostaining, metabolic flux assays (e.g., Seahorse), and basic molecular cloning. - Assist in executing experiments in cancer metabolism and therapeutic target validation, including work with preclinical models. - Collect, log, and analyze experimental data; generate figures, graphs, and basic statistical summaries. - Contribute to manuscript preparation, presentations, and research reports. - Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory, and organization to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. - Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.

Unique duties:
Successful candidates will perform research in transgenic mouse model, animal behavioral study, stem cell biology, hair cell regeneration, neural regeneration, and synapse formation. The candidates will be in a substantially part time or full-time program of advanced research and training.

The project, led by PI Jamaal Matthews (University of Michigan) and co-PI Nia Nixon (University of California, Irvine), focuses on developing and deploying Generative AI (GenAI) tools to support secondary mathematics teachers' professional learning through equity-centered coaching. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the project's research objectives, which include:
Developing GenAI models to code mathematics instruction based on the seven dimensions of Belonging-Centered Instruction (BCI).
Creating AI models capable of coding video-recorded secondary mathematics instruction for generating a strengths and improvement assessment to guide human-facilitated teacher coaching.
Designing AI-driven learning modules that can suggest culturally relevant and sustaining instructional strategies (as well as point to examples of enactment) for supporting secondary mathematics teachers' professional learning and instructional improvement.
This is a two-year appointment, with the option for a third year renewal, anticipated to start in summer 2025.
The position will be based in the Eileen Lappin Weiser Center for Learning Sciences in the Marsal School of Education at the University of Michigan. The research investigator will report directly to Jamaal Matthews and Nia Nixon; however, in year one they will also spend 30% of their weekly time working with Rebecca Quintana and Christopher Quintana on their “ready to hand” GenAI tools project and 10% of their weekly time for integrated collaborative work with the center.
