The Lab Technician, working in an accredited commercial microbiology laboratory, is responsible for performing various laboratory functions such as preparing media and/or samples of a variety of sample types for analysis, performing routine laboratory maintenance efforts, and is responsible for basic set up and operation of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to support exceptional Customer Experience (CX). The samples to be analyzed may drinking water, wastewater, and / or Food samples. Once training is complete (usually 1 or 2 months), the schedule for this position will be Sunday - Thursday (off on Fri & Sat). The usual work hours are from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM with some flexibility on these exact hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Following established SOP’s, Laboratory Technicians ensure customer satisfaction by supporting laboratory staff through executing various entry level laboratory duties, resulting in the timely and accurate reporting of data Gather appropriate materials needed to prepare and analyze test samples Must be able to follow good aseptic laboratory techniques when preparing media and / or analyzing samples as to prevent cross contamination. Sample receipt, login, storage and disposal Prepare necessary standards, solutions, media, etc., that are required for sample analyses Perform basic equipment and instrumentation set up and operation Execute routine laboratory maintenance efforts, such as glassware cleaning and sterilization, and ensuring the laboratory is well maintained Accurately record observations and data Maintain accurate, up to date logs, notebooks and equipment records Perform necessary laboratory administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, reviewing of data, and entering data into computerized LIMS Comply with and promote Personnel, Safety, and Quality Program Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma Ability to work with small vials, test tubes and delicate laboratory equipment Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts to perform basic laboratory calculations and accurately measure substances, liquids and/or solutions Ability to read and apply established protocols and SOP’s to daily objectives Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats

Title: QC Microbiology Laboratory Technician
Location: Syracuse, NY
Start date: ASAP
Responsibilities:The Microbiological Control (MC) Laboratory supports the onsite small scale commercial manufacturing facility.
The QC Microbiology Laboratory Technician conducts routine microbiological laboratory testing of raw materials and products for in-process, release and stability samples in compliance with methods, procedures, protocols and regulatory requirements.
The QC Microbiology Laboratory technician performs lab analysis of environmental and utility samples and identification of microorganisms according to defined procedures.
Perform laboratory analysis of samples, using aseptic technique, following established procedures and in full compliance with official compendia, health authority regulations, and established policies.
Conduct qualification of methods and/or other laboratory studies, according to scientific protocols.
Maintains accurate records of work performed and documents results, according to good documentation practices and established procedures as well as perform data entry into LIMS.
Assist with review of worksheets, as assigned.
Assists in the investigation of OOS results in areas of assigned responsibility.
Operates and maintains laboratory instruments, while ensuring the reliability of instrumentation through proper maintenance, with ability to troubleshoot minor issues.
Must analyze, evaluate, and interpret data, notifying clients of results, and assisting to resolve issues, if applicable. Identify opportunities for workflow and procedural improvements.
Promotes quality, safety and health, by ensuring clean work area, and adherence to procedures and safety culture.
Must participate in continuous improvement using lean principles to assist with streamlining and making the laboratory efficient.

Requirements:B.S. Degree in Biological Sciences or related field with 0-3 years of QC microbiology laboratory experience
Knowledge of aseptic technique, environmental monitoring, and microbiological Quality Control testing and procedures preferred.
Has excellent manual dexterity and aseptic technique.
Has ability to complete sampling or testing assignments in a timely and compliant manner, with minimal supervision.
Perform limited interpretation of data.
Demonstrate ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and complete assignments in a timely and compliant manner, with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of cGMPs and compendia testing required.
Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.

Specific is seeking a Lab Tech with experience in microbiology. Ideally, you have proven expertise in aseptic technique, media preparation, and lab maintenance. Responsibilities include:

+ Processing and testing microbiological specimen samples using aseptic technique and lab safety protocols.

+ Prepare solutions/reagents

+ Record and document test data in notebooks/binders/electronic notebooks

+ Perform a variety of standardized tests within microbiology department.

+ Performing other quality control procedures to assure the operational accuracy of equipment and test reproducibility.

+ Maintain the laboratory and equipment.

Job Requirements

+ Associate's degree or previous coursework in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or a related field is preferred

+ Exposure to pipetting; will pipet an average of 2-3 hours per day, at times up to 8 hours

+ Experience with GLP's is a plus

+ Basic computer skills; able to read and enter information via computer 50% of the shift

+ Strong attention to detail and self-motivation

+ Monday - Friday daily, during normal business hours, 9am-5pm, with some flexibility

+ Due to the highly variable nature of our business, we ask you to be available for at least 1 weekend day in a four week period
