Key Responsibilities: * Sample and test raw materials and final products. * Conduct microbial analysis for environmental monitoring. * Perform basic laboratory operations and documentation. * Operate analytical and monitoring instruments. * Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods. * Write and review SOPs and test notes. * Support cleaning sample testing and other duties. Our focus is to use experimental evolution experiments and whole genome sequencing to better understand the evolution of mutation rates. This role will report to Sarah Schaack. This is not a remote position. This is a temporary, part-time role scheduled to work about 20 hours per week for about 6 months. The starting pay for this position is $20.60 -$23.00/hour. The Beatty Lab at OHSU is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant 2 (RA 2) to conduct research using chemical probes to study bacterial pathogens. The RA2 will be part of an interdisciplinary team studying enzyme regulation in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other mycobacterial species. This NIAID-funded project combines enzyme biochemistry, proteomics, microbiology, and chemistry to make new discoveries. The Frank Lab at OHSU is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant 2 (RA 2) to conduct research on leveraging chemical probes to interrogate cannabinoid signaling processes in the brain. The Johnson lab within the department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology (MMI) focuses on two human herpes viruses: herpes simplex virus (HSV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The lab studies interactions between these viruses and host cells, the immune system, and viral pathogenesis. This position will assist in the investigation of how human cytomegalovirus infects and spreads in relevant human cell types with the focus on characterizing virus membrane glycoprotein function and interactions with host cell receptor molecules. The position will also involve performing virology based assays using a variety of mammalian cell lines in a tissue culture model system. Additional duties will include characterizing virus and host cell proteins by western blot, ELISA assays, immunofluorescent microscopy and other standard techniques. This position will also entail performing additional molecular biology techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, protein expression and purification, antibody production, and preparation of live viruses. Qualifications · BS/MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field. · Demonstrated experience with molecular methods including DNA isolation, fragmentation, PCR, qPCR, dd PCR and NGS library preparation. · Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to maintain careful attention to detail. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Demonstrated experience keeping accurate and detailed laboratory records. · Capable of working independently as well as in a team environment with the ability to analyze, interpret data, recognize quality failures and proactively seek help. · Proficiency with standard software (e.g. Microsoft Office) is required. · Ability to thrive in a demanding start-up environment with a positive, productive, professional attitude. · Experience in a high throughput molecular lab or services lab is desirable. · Experience with automated liquid handling platforms is a plus. · Must be a US citizen or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
