JOB TITLE: Research Scientist Assistant JOB PURPOSE: Research Scientists are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 2-7 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals. The successful Research Scientist will support a wide variety of agricultural research projects at the Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC), located in Powell, WY, as well as surrounding areas within the Big Horn Basin agricultural region. The incumbent will participate in designing, implementing, monitoring, and interpreting research studies across a wide range of agronomic subjects including, but not limited to, weed science, plant breeding, and plant pathology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with PIs, graduate students, industry partners, and the PREC faculty and staff to help plan, implement, monitor, collect data for, interpret and harvest field research studies in plant science. Act as liaison to facilitate cooperation and communication between off-campus faculty, students, and industry groups executing research activities at the PREC and the PREC farm crew. Analyze and interpret experimental data for reporting and subsequent investigations. Help prepare reports, presentations, and other research outputs and present data to relevant stakeholders. Perform or supervise experiments to ensure safety, efficiency, and adherence to quality control standards. Work closely with the PREC Director to ensure that research activities are being performed with scientific rigor and efficiency. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: Travel for additional learning opportunities to assist in designing, performing, and presenting research results and learning new methodologies. Work cooperatively with station personnel, with a variety of agricultural-based tasks and responsibilities, including the application of pesticides. Opportunity to mentor junior graduate students and interns. Understand the operation and limitations of PREC field research equipment and operate equipment when needed. The Wyoming toad program consists of a breeding population of about 110 toads and a toadlet population of approximately 900. This position will be responsible for the daily care of these toads from hatching eggs to the release of adults the following year. The toad building consists of 76, 45-gallon tanks holding the toad population. The new Bio tech. will be responsible for feeding the toads, cleaning of tanks, and raising insects to feed the toads. Incumbent assists with the Wyoming toad-rearing program and assists in record keeping for all aspects of toad culture and husbandry. Location Saratoga, WY Schedule January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026 Key Duties and Responsibilities Provide all aspects of animal husbandry and maintenance, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animal health.
