What You Will Do :

• Establish a culture of high expectations that ensures all scholars in the classroom meet their projected individual growth goals
• Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with State Standards and PLA Instructional Guidelines
• Assess students regularly and personalize classroom instruction based on assessment data and each scholar's needs
• Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education
• Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
• Ensure scholar classroom retention of 80% during an academic school year

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Credential required OR Enrolled in an accredited teacher licensing program
• Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
• Strength in using data to drive instruction
• Willingness to align your mission with the vision of PLA’s Core Values.

To teach and develop the secondary Visual Arts program in a middle school.

Major Responsibilities:

* Teach a sequential visual arts curriculum as defined by TEA and the District Curriculum Planning Guides.
* Coordinate activities within the school which pertain to visual arts and the curriculum.
* Target instructional techniques, teaching strategies, 21st century terminology and skills, and district initiatives to prepare students to be college and workforce ready.
* Attend required district content meetings and professional development and demonstrate a desire for continuous growth in the field of visual arts.
* Participate in student and teacher field and exhibition events and vertical teaming annually.
* Work with other visual arts teachers and comprehensive classroom teachers to improve educational offerings and artworks which engage active student dialog, curiosity, debate, and writing.
* Display student work in the school and community. Participate in local and state contests, including Junior Vase.
* Work closely with school administration to ensure that the arts are a valued and viable part of the school curriculum.
* Work closely with colleges, community, educational, arts, and business organizations to promote thinking and learning through the visual arts in the local community.
* Work with the Secondary Visual Arts Coordinator in the coordination of the art program and projects throughout the district.
* Work to establish and maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning and working environment, in compliance with EPA and OSHA standards.
* Participate in local, state and national Art Education organizations; attend local gallery and museum openings and free lectures at colleges; read professional journals and stay current with 21st Century skills.
* Implement essential skills and knowledge in the digital arts as required for 21st Century skills.
* Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
* All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personal activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
* Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.

* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.

* Demonstrated proficient to advanced skill in the use of Outlook, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
* Demonstrated writing and editing skills.

Requirements

NYS Teacher Certification in Art or reciprocity from another state in the equivalent area required.

At least 2 years of Art Teacher experience at the middle school level, grades 5-8 required.

Bachelor's Degree required.

Master's Degree preferred.
