ASTEC is searching for an ELA/English teacher to join our team. We are currently a preK-12th grade campus, however we encourage all grade level ELA teachers to apply as well! We are in need of qualified English teachers to become a part of a great team and an administration who values professional development.

Must be professional, dedicated, understand pedagogy, have a good command of technology, be organized and willing to work with a team of faculty, administrators and our exceptional scholars.

New teachers work a total of 187 working days in a full contract and enjoy all of the holidays, breaks, and weekends that teachers are accustomed to.

Applicants with more years and higher degrees receive more pay.

All new hires will receive a one-time sign on bonus up to $1,500, paid on their first check if they hold an OK Teaching certification.

ASTEC pays teachers between $3,000 -$11,000 more than the state minimum salaries.

Minimum Requirements:

Must possess at least a bachelor's degree.

Be at least highly qualified as defined by state and federal guidelines. (30 credit hours in an education or English-related degree)

Basic understanding of technology utilized in today's classrooms (Google classroom/spreadsheet, etc..)

Must have received their COVID-19 vaccination.

Preferred Requirements

Possession of an Oklahoma Teacher Certification in English(Those who went through a college of education will be placed at the top of the list!)

Prior experience as a teacher, tutor, or school employee

Graduate degree or other relative experience.

The Blake School seeks a dynamic, creative and reflective 6th-8th grade English teacher who is eager to help students read and write with rigor, insight and imagination. The ideal candidate will have experience in fostering a diverse and supportive community committed to pluralism and a common set of values to prepare students for purposeful lives as community and global citizens.

The teacher will work closely with a grade-level team in 6th and in 8th to design units, activities and lessons that develop foundational skills for learning and inquiry. Drawing from a writing workshop model inspired by Teachers College, Columbia University, teachers focus writing instruction on the moves authors make to compose meaningful personal narratives, literary essays, nonfiction articles and persuasive arguments. Middle School English courses also include explicit instruction in reading skills to develop close reading, annotation and other meaning-making strategies.

This is an interim position for the second half of the 2022-23 school year. It is not eligible for benefits.

Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

Experience and Skills:

The ideal candidate will:

* hold a bachelor's degree in a related field
* demonstrate experience with student-centered teaching practices such as reading and writing workshops, discussion-based activities, and inquiry approaches to reading and writing
* be able to both nurture and challenge Middle School students as necessary to meet the developmental and learning needs of each individual
* have experience teaching students with a wide array of identities and lived experiences
* have some experience in shaping curricula at the middle school level
* demonstrate prior success in working collaboratively and harmoniously with other adults in an educational setting

What You Will Do :

• Establish a culture of high expectations that ensures all scholars in the classroom meet their projected individual growth goals for ELA.
• Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with State Standards and PLA Instructional Guidelines
• Assess students regularly and personalize classroom instruction based on assessment data and each scholar's needs
• Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education
• Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
• Ensure scholar classroom retention of 80% during an academic school year

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Credential required OR Enrolled in an accredited teacher licensing program
• Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
• Strength in using data to drive instruction
