Job Description
The Grille at Middlebury College is looking for a part time employee (20 hrs./week). The shift is Wednesday through Sunday from 4pm to 8pm.
We are looking for a food service/kitchen worker who is needed to perform a variety of functions in our kitchen to prepare the restaurant for service and to prepare food for other venues within the department. Ages 14+ may appl but there are restrictions of use on sharp tools, ovens and chemicals with employees below the age of 16.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position with a starting wage of $16.94 per hour.
Responsibilities may include:
Preparing fruits and vegetables for use, washing, peeling, chopping, and more.
Always maintaining a clean and tidy workstation.
Stocking various items in preparation for future shifts.
Notifying the manager on duty of any out of date or rotting food.
Prepares sandwiches, wraps, salads and more for Grab n Go options.
Loads soiled dishes, pots, pans, containers and more into the dish machine and unload them when they have finished the wash cycle.
Must follow sanitation guidelines.
Unloads and stacks dishes in appropriate storage areas.
Sweeps and mops kitchen, dish room area and walk-ins.
Removes trash can liners and recyclables from kitchen area and disposes of in trash and recycling receptacles.
Rinsing trash cans and compost containers.
No previous experience is required.
Requires practice of proper health sanitation and a good attitude to learn and grow.

Physical Demands
Must physically be able to lift 10-20 lbs. numerous times during the day. Up to 50 lbs. several times per day and must be able to push or pull a cart up to 70 lbs. frequently.
Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
Requires frequent walking and long periods of time standing.
Must be able to work in a hot and humid environment.

Cashier/Part-Time Kitchen Helper - Lunch
Monday - Friday 09:45 a.m. - 02:00 p.m.
*Minimum of four (4 hours per day, five (5) days a week during the regular school calendar

Basic Information
Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Services and Nutrition Services Supervisor, assists the Food Service Lead in the preparation and serving of food at an assigned food service facility; maintains food service facilities in a clean and sanitary condition.
Representative Duties
1. Washes and prepares eating and serving areas; sets up steam tables; sets out trays, food and beverages.
2. Portions and serves food to students and staff according to established procedures.
3. Prepares fruits, vegetables and other foods for serving or cooking; assists in preparing foods such as salads, hot and cold sandwiches, sliced meats and sliced or grated cheese.
4. Maintains work areas and serving areas in a sanitary manner; washes and cleans counters and steam tables; cleans and stores plates, utensils, pots and pans, trays and kitchen equipment.
5. Assists in storing unused food and supplies according to established procedures; disposes of unusable leftovers and garbage.
6. Operates and cleans a variety of standard kitchen equipment such as dishwasher, slicers, graters, can openers, steam tables, ovens and plastic wrap sealing machine.
7. Provides work direction to student helpers as assigned.
8. Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge Of:
1. Methods of preparing sandwiches, salads, vegetables and other foods for cooking and consumption.
2. Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
3. Sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food.
4. Standard kitchen equipment, utensils and measurements.
5. Basic math skills.
Ability To:

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma.
Licenses and Other Requirements
Able to qualify for a valid Food Handler's Certificate.
Working Conditions
Food Service facility environment; subject to heat from ovens, lifting, pulling, pushing and standing for long periods of time.

Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, pots, pans, utensils and work areas
Completes daily food production records, temperature logs and other reports as required by the Oakland Co. Health Dept. USDA and MDE
Reports problems or accidents immediately to the manager or cook; building principal and the food service director
Present and conducts his/herself in a professional manner, clean and neat in appearance
Ensures strict confidentiality
Secures the kitchen at the end of the day
Attends professional development workshops or classes to keep current on food service trends and regulations
Other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director, kitchen manager, cook or building principal
Additional information and understanding of this position: While performing job duties, you may possibly work in very warm or cold temperatures, loud noise level; occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces, stand for long periods of time. Other physical requirements of the job are pushing and lifting heavy cases of food, bending and reaching.
