Midwestern State University company history timeline

1922

General Information Established in 1922.

1937

In 1937, the college acquired a new, 40-acre campus of its own on the south side of town.

1946

In 1946, a senior division was added and it was renamed Hardin College.

1950

In January 1950, the name changed to Midwestern University, with the junior college division remaining Hardin Junior College.

1975

In 1975, the Texas Legislature changed the name to Midwestern State University.

1988

2005

16, 2005 Wichitan there is an interchange in the use of Indians and Mustangs on the sports page.

2006

Before 2006, students didn’t see Maverick the mascot used today.

Soozie Amdor, in the 2006 interview, said, “There is nothing better than a little kid running up to you for a big Mustang hug.”

2007

After deciding on Maverick the Mustang, they waited a year to announce his name to everyone at his first birthday on Homecoming Weekend 2007.

2015

On March 9, 2015, the university announced that Suzanne Shipley was selected to become its next president, following Jesse Rogers' retirement after 48 years of service to the school.

2018

The two-story facility shares space with North Central Texas College and opened in June 2018.

2019

The Robert and Carol Gunn College of Health Sciences and Human Services officially opened up their new building, Centennial Hall, on September 6, 2019.

2020

On August 6, 2020, the Texas Tech University System and Midwestern State University agreed to a memorandum of understanding to begin the process of MSU Texas becoming the fifth university to join the system.

2021

MSU Texas became the fifth member institution of the TTU System in September 2021, a testament to the growth and exceptional reputation of the university throughout the state.
