Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse assigned, performs a variety of direct patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comforts of the patient. Provides care that addresses the specific needs of age groups from infant to elderly as well as accommodating a variety of needs specific to impairments such as hearing, sight, substance abuse, language barriers, and potential victims of abuse. Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Nurse Director, performs a variety of technical and patient care functions that assist the nurses in daily activities. All functions performed in this position are an essential component of the hospital plan for patient care and reflect chronological age, developmental level and the specific needs of our patient population.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Follows hospital policies and procedures to correctly identify patients prior to transport between nursing units and/or MGH.
2. Utilizing sound principles of back safety and body mechanic; transports, assists in lifting, moving and positioning patients as needed.
3. Maintaining Universal Precautions disinfects stretchers after each patient (railings and mattress).
4. Cleans all stretchers entirely on a weekly basis. Checks stretchers for functional defects, report and red tags for repair. Reports and red tags equipment to charge nurse, Clinical leader, Director to assure that general hospital safety standards are being met.
5. Cleans and prepares patients care areas daily following hospital departmental policies and procedures. These duties include but are not limited to: emptying trash, linen bags, closing and replacing sharps containers, IV pole cleaning, emptying suction canisters, replacing liners, setting up patient care areas as needed to include appropriate equipment for all patient areas
6. Cleans and restocks unit, all nursing carts, restocks all nursing carts according to predetermined inventory levels to assure that adequate patient care supplies are available.
7. Transports blood and blood products to and from MGH Blood Bank following AABB regulations.
8. Always protects patient rights and maintains patient confidentiality.
9. Fill blanket warmer as needed per area if applicable.

Makes routine room rounds to unclutter, clean, and organize patient rooms/areas when needed.
Checks inventories, and restocks/replaces/assembles patient equipment and supplies.
Appropriately disposes of trash, soiled linens, medical waste & disposable items.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED certificate required
Basic Life Support Certification or obtained within 90 days of employment.
LICENSE:
Requires an up to date nursingassistant license from the state of MA
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language. Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the Medical Center is a plus.
Ability to perform basic math and quantitative measurements, e.g., obtain height and weight, abdominal girths, measure urine output, calorie counts, etc
Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information/data. Ability to use Microsoft Outlook.
Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads (e.g. independently transport average-sized patient via wheelchair and stretcher, etc.) throughout assigned shift.
Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served.
Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues and changing organizational climate and personnel issues.

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse assigned, performs a variety of direct patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comforts of the patient. Provides care that addresses the specific needs of age groups from infant to elderly as well as accommodating a variety of needs specific to impairments such as hearing, sight, substance abuse, language barriers, and potential victims of abuse. Incorporates knowledge and understanding of our commitment to patient rights, exceptional care and the hospital's values and mission into his/her performance of job duties. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and patients is required. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Compensation Range:
