Job Description
Title: Armed Security Officer - Anchorage Based
Employment Type: Part-Time/Potential Full-Time
Schedule: Week on, week off; Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm or 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Compensation: $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience
Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years in State or Municipality Law Enforcement

Armed Security Officer
Position Summary:
A Signal Armed Security Officer will conduct security services for the surveillance and protection against fire, theft, pilferage, malicious injury, and destruction. Armed security officers, equipped with concealed weapons, shall be dressed in a soft uniform for roving patrols and posted at the main lobby entrance of the facility assigned. Armed Security Officers play a vital role by actively observing their surroundings, positively engaging with customers, associates, and responding to emergency situations. All duties listed below are minimum requirements - additional duties listed in the site's Post Orders are requirements as well.
Responsibilities of a Armed Security Officer may include:
Provide reasonable health security and infection prevention controls and screenings, as well as provide escort service to and from staff personnel and State vehicles.
Will conduct and deliver Dedicated services that reflect the company's values, expectations and consistent service in alignment with site expectations/post orders.
Will write detailed and accurate reports utilizing company technology during each shift that align with site instruction/post orders.
Interacting with internal and external personnel on site and promptly report any information that may impact the relationship of the Client to their direct supervisor, the Site Lead Officer or the Dedicated Division Leader.
Responsible for the care of any Signal equipment assigned during shift including company phone, access keys/cards and devices, etc.
Manage daily activities while meeting key benchmarks and expectations set by direct Supervisor such as reporting standards, service quality and performance in line with site specific policies and procedures.
Communicate with direct Supervisor to receive and disseminate information through daily huddles, such as the Client needs through post orders to ensure operational excellence and efficiency.
Site Requirements:
21 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED
Minimum 5 years prior state or large municipality law enforcement experience
Pass a background check and drug test
Must be able to obtain an Alaska Armed Guard License
Complete SPI training modules within first month
Excellent organization, oral, and written communication skills
Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members
Ability to conform to established procedures and to help identify and solve problems
Ability to get along with other employees, follow directions, work under stress, add value and continuously improve
Demonstrates a commitment to service, organization values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times
Must be able to move equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
Ability to stand and patrol on foot for extended periods of time (4, 6, 8, 10 hours)
Must be able to professionally wear a Signal officer's uniform

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Provide protection of work sites, personnel and assets from such events as assault, theft, vandalism, harassment, and other disruptive events.
* Control access of personnel, materials and equipment to and within the work sites.
* Perform security patrols of worksites.
* Respond to general alarms, power outages, broken water/power lines, suspicious activity or security breaches of any kind.
* Make an arrest if necessary, using handcuffs.
* From a variety of body positions, load, unload, aim and fire handguns, under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards.
* Perform searches of people, vehicles, vessels, buildings, and large outdoor areas which may involve feeling and detecting objects, and walking over uneven terrain for long periods of time.
* Confront suspicious persons, assess intentions, and take action as appropriate.
* Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging and carrying people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from particular areas as well as directing traffic.
* Understand and employ appropriate safety measures working in close proximity to high voltage electricity and/or highly flammable/caustic materials (natural gas, diesel, ammonia, glycol).
* Gather information in investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of all participants and witnesses. Reproduce the results of those investigations into written form so as to clearly and accurately reflect the information obtained.
* Exercise sound judgment in determining appropriate action when there is a reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when force may be used and to what degree.
* Maintain composure and control of the situation while enduring verbal and mental abuse when confronted with the hostile views and opinions of people encountered in an antagonistic environment.
* Operate a motor vehicle during both the day and night; in urban and rural setting, in urban congested traffic or remote settings and in hazardous road conditions caused by factors such as rain, snow, sleet, ice, fog, smoke, and dirt roads.
* Conduct visual surveillance for extended periods of time.
* Observe, recall, and distinguish characteristics of persons, suspects, automobiles, location, property, etc. to include colors, shapes, sizes, height, weight, abnormalities, changes or differences since last observed, and other distinguishing characteristics.
* Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

Individuals not continuously employed since February 9, 1991, by the State of Alaska Department of Corrections in a "correctional officer," "probation officer," or "parole officer" position, as defined by 13 AAC 85.900, are subject to requirements established by Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC). As a condition of continued employment, these individuals must obtain a basic correctional officer certificate issued by the APSC within 14 months of hire.
Any employment action that resulted in discharge, resignation in lieu of discharge, or discipline, must be disclosed at the time of application to vacancies within this classification. Applicants who fail to provide this information will be deemed to be ineligible for interview or further consideration. Upon successfully passing screening criteria, qualified candidates will receive a job offer that is conditional. The conditional job offer is contingent upon the applicant completing and passing: a background investigation, drug screening, medical examination, and psychological evaluation. The Department also recognizes that recruiting efforts by Correctional Officers is an effective tool for new recruits. Under the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement, current officers may be credited with Recruitment Incentive Leave for proactively participating in recruiting efforts for Correctional Officer 1/2 positions. Correctional Officers who recruit a new officer, who successfully completes probation and the academy, are eligible to be awarded an additional 60 hours of personal leave to be credited to their leave account.
Correctional Facilities are located in various Alaska communities and during the application process, applicants will be allowed to select their preference for consideration and may select more than one location; however, successful applicants will be offered positions based upon total number of vacancies and the needs of the department.

* Provide and maintain a high state of security in and around the buildings, and as necessary, provide a response capability and assist in emergency management situations, acts of terrorism, bomb threats, internal disorder, civilian employee demonstrations, or other criminal acts which adversely affect the security and/or safety of the Government, employee property, and the general public lawfully in the building or on the grounds.
* Notify the Security Control Room and when directed, the police and fire departments in the event of an emergency or an unusual occurrence adversely affecting the interest of the Government.
* Turn off unnecessary lights; close windows; open, close, and secure doors; and check safes vaults, cabinets and security doors, if possible. Annotate and make notifications of discrepancies found.

* Issue permanent and/or temporary identification (ID) cards/badges and perform all functions necessary to furnish the completed photo identification to authorized CDC-NIOSH employees, contractors, service personnel, and visitors. Order and maintain a reasonable inventory of I.D. supplies, schedule I.D. appointments, take and process photographs, and maintain records of all I.D. cards/badges issued and any changes of status on manual files and/or on computer files. The Government shall pay for all supplies ordered in accordance with this requirement. Receive, receipt for, and safely transport serum samples and specimens (DASH) to designated storage containers when delivered to CDC after normal working hours and as directed by site security plan or post orders

Primary Responsibilities: Supports Shrinkage and Safety Awareness programs: Aids Store Management to communicate current shrinkage and safety topics.
