Requirements

Possess a current valid driver's license
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.

The hiring range for this position in California is $117,100.00 - $156,900.00 year. What will I be doing?
The Crime Analyst (CA) I will analyze the firearms and ammunition eligibility status of applicants by utilizing criminal offenders record information and other firearms and ammunition eligibility related records using multiple systems. The APPU conducts extensive background eligibility checks and criminal history analysis of individuals who have acquired firearms and ammunition, to determine if they are prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm and ammunition since their initial acquisition.
Firearm Reporting Team (FRT):
The FRT is responsible for analyzing criminal history information and other firearms eligibility records for individuals seeking to record firearms in their name.

The LER is responsible for analyzing criminal history information and other firearms eligibility records for people seeking to retrieve firearms and/or ammunition in the possession of law enforcement agencies to determine the individual's eligibility to own or possess a firearm or ammunition.
Eligibility Clearance Unit (ECU):
The ECU is responsible for analyzing criminal history information and other firearms and ammunition related records to determine an applicant's eligibility to own or possess firearms and/or ammunition.
Agency Notification Unit (ANU):
The ANU conducts firearms eligibility checks of individuals applying to become peace officers, public officers (e.g., custodial or transportation officers), armed security guards, or students in California Peace Officer Standards and Training certification courses. The ANU is also responsible for notifying applicant agencies when a peace officer or security guard issued a firearm becomes prohibited from owning or possessing firearms under state or federal law.
Firearms Record Review Team:
The Firearms Record Review Team processes live scans from the public for Firearms Record Review and Ammunition Record Review. The BOF's record review process is a mechanism designed to allow individuals who have been determined to be ineligible to own or possess a firearm and/or ammunition the opportunity to review the criminal history information used by the Bureau to determine their eligibility.

DEFINITION Under direction, performs a wide variety of technical research and analysis of criminal justice information and activities in support of the Police Department. This is a journey level classification and it is expected that the full range of duties for this class be performed independently. As the state's federally mandated Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) works aggressively to investigate and prosecute fraudulent activities and the illegal diversion of health care resources from California's most vulnerable citizens. Under the supervision of the Crime Analyst Supervisor, the Crime Analyst I (CA I) locates, compiles, analyzes and disseminates Medi-Cal fraud and elder abuse information, data, and documentary evidence in support of the investigative and prosecutorial duties of the Special Agents, Deputy Attorneys General and Special Investigators within DMFEA.
