The Skilled Maintenance Person (mechanic), under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor, is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance tasks within the MetroParks. It is the responsibility of the Skilled Maintenance Person to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions, and/or work orders in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Typical duties include vehicle maintenance and repair. Other duties include but are not limited to maintenance activities associated with the trades of carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, roofing, forestry, welding, excavation, paving, concrete, masonry, HVAC, landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, metal work, pest management, and equipment repair work. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
Primary Responsibilities
1. General Maintenance and Repair: 70%
Perform routine preventative vehicle maintenance
Performs vehicle inspection, diagnostics, and repair
Minor electrical work, troubleshooting, and repair
Minor welding or fabrication
Performs snow and ice removal at all MetroParks facilities including roads, sidewalks, etc.
2. Equipment Operation: 20%
Operate project specific equipment including but not limited to; heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, survey and measuring equipment
Cleans, maintains, and inspects equipment
3. Other: 10%
Assist with MetroParks events as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager
Assist with vehicle and repair record keeping
Provides intra-department support as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager
Essential Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate and take instruction

Knowledge of current industry trends in the field of maintenance including various individual trades best management practices and techniques
Ability to operate various types of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles
Ability to multi-task and complete assignments in an efficient and timely manner

Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures, as well as union labor agreements
Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, email, internet, smart phone capabilities, and time tracking software
Must be accessible and available on short notice for call-outs
Education/ Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License
Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent along with continued education or technical school trade certification or apprenticeship
A minimum of three (3) years of general vehicle maintenance and repair

Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
Able to perform hard physical labor in all indoor and outdoor environments
Ability to operate construction vehicles, such as dump trucks, backhoes, dozers, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under the direction of the Visitor Services Coordinator (VSC), duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Demonstrate an ability to engage with all guests from a wide range of backgrounds, providing the highest quality customer service.
Ensure each visitor or group feels welcomed and receives a cheerful and warm greeting by Visitor Services immediately upon entering CAM.
Ensure the lobbies and coatrooms are clean and orderly.
Answer a wide variety of visitors' questions in person and over the phone. Responsible for balancing receiving visitors at the desk and over the phone.
Demonstrate an ability to deal with customer feedback with grace and professionalism. Assist in de-escalating visitor matters.
Play an active role in reaching CAM strategic goals through promotion of all art engagement opportunities and encouraging return visits.
Play an active role in reaching CAM financial goals through promotion of the coffee bar, café, paid programming, membership, exhibition tickets, etc.
Ensure back-of-house activities are operated with excellence and attention to detail with team goals in mind.
Ensure integrity of daily balancing and handling of all payments, as well as maintaining the confidentiality of all sensitive information. Conducting member sales and renewals with special attention to correct data entry.
Support the VSC with onboarding, training, and skill development of new team members.
Manage assigned projects in timely manner with attention to detail while prioritizing the visitor experience. Assist other departments with projects as needed.

High school diploma or equivalent education required.
Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.
