Job Description
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Operator, Rod Mill is a high skilled role that will be responsible for producing a top-quality rod by operating the mill in an efficient manner by setting up and maintaining equipment and controls. Operator must perform before, during, and after operational checks and maintenance. Must maintain roughing mill, finishing mill and NAPs line.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must be certified to operate mobile equipment and overhead crane
PRIMARY JOB TASKS:
Set up mill for operation on correct size rod, maintain and monitor for quality
Trouble shoot problems identified by quality lab
Set up for roll checks and rod size changes
Monitor and maintain fin removal system
Monitor fluid systems and support systems for the mill (lube oil, soluble oil, NAPS and quench)
Maintain spare set of rolls, guides and/or keys for each stand on the mill
Track and maintain inventory for all mill parts
Maintain constant rod temperature by adjusting the NAPS system
Responsible for upkeep and operation of roll removal and installation tools and equipment
CROSS TRAINING:
Will be required to cross-train on equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
Will be required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
QUALITY:
Responsible for producing superior quality copper rod
Use of systems and equipment to monitor and control quality in copper rod production process
SAFETY:

Operate equipment in a manner that does not endanger life, limb or property

Follow proper Lock out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures
Follow all mobile equipment and vehicle pedestrian interface (VPI) policies and procedures
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, heavy aluminized/heat resistant or flame-retardant clothing, respirator/mask, face shield, heat resistant gloves, and metatarsal safety shoes
Use caution and follow proper operating procedures when using any support equipment or power tools
PHYSCIAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to handle/lift to 45 lbs
Must be able to work wear required PPE while working in under extreme conditions: heat, heights, weather conditions
Must be able to sit/stand up to 12 hours
