Bill recognized the potential for a full service photo lab and began developing prints for other professional photographers above his studio in 1964.
Knowing he was limited in growth in this location, Bill constructed a new 3,900 square-foot facility in 1968 where it still stands on East Jefferson Street.
Florida natives Thomas J. Miller and Harley W. Miller established Miller Construction Company in 1973 with a far-sighted partnership approach based on fostering long-term relationships.
The company became a leader in human-factors engineering (ergonomics), first developing the Ergon work chair in 1976.
They were geared toward a bureaucracy." His first position at the helm of a company came in February 1987, when he assumed the presidency of Flow Measurement, a maker of industrial flow meters.
1988 Expanded Our Reach
Grain Millers purchased a mill in St Ansgar, Iowa in 1988, knowing that a Midwest presence would allow us to hit east coast markets at a competitive price.
When current president Steve Eilertson's company, Agri-Trading, became part of the Grain Millers family in 1989, our future was further secured through the procurement expertise that he and his partners, Jay Brandau and Kent Harder, brought to our company.
Together the three became part of the newly formed Miller Group--for a total price of $25 million, of which Miller borrowed $20 million. Thus, in 1990 Miller began bringing these mordant giants back to life.
In 1991, the Miller Group lost $4.7 million, but this was perhaps to be expected, considering its several large acquisitions and the fact that the enterprise was just being launched.
Just three years later, however, in the fiscal year that ended in April 1994, Miller showed a profit of $4.3 million.
Miller later told Forbes, in November 1996: "The big companies weren't geared toward the shareholders.
In 1996, it acquired two European subsidiaries, tow truck makers Jige in France and Boniface Engineering in the United Kingdom.
According to a May 20, 1998, press release, a Tennessee judge had granted Miller Industries' motion to dismiss the class action suit.
2000 Invested in the Middle of Oat Country
In order to meet the needs of the digital age, Miller’s built a second, state-of-the-art, 40,000 square-foot facility in March of 2001.
2001 Created a Breakthrough in Organic Oat Fiber
In 2003, Miller’s launched Mpix, a fully web-based digital imaging lab to service both emerging professionals and photo enthusiasts.
In 2009, MpixPro was launched, catering to single-studio photographers looking for price savings and simplicity.
2010 Further Diversified With Corn Milling Acquisition
Grain Millers purchased a grain elevator in Canada in 2016 to provide rail transportation to our mill, once again bringing us closer to our farmers.
