JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance services and inspects, diagnose and repairs commercial and business vehicles and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Works under limited supervision and selects from written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services using a variety of manual and power tools.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Performs all work within a reasonable amount of time based on diagnosis, repair time, and parts availability.
  • Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Assists senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
  • Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Helps with inventory control of facility, equipment, shop parts and supplies.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures as set by the Company and OSHA.
  • Ensures cleanliness of facility and maintenance areas.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday and/or Saturdays when scheduled. Must be able to work various hours and flexible shifts when needed.
  • Must be ready, willing, and able to report to work prepared for the day at the scheduled time.
  • Regular attendance is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A. Education and Experience (PREFERRED, but not required)

  • Education: GED or High School Diploma
  • Trade School: Trade or Technical school in diesel mechanics
  • Experience: Two (2) years of relevant, and work experience applicable to this position

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check, criminal history and motor vehicle record review.
  • Must be able to physically manage the process of repairing commercial waste management vehicles.
  • Valid CDL License - Preferred

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in the English language both verbally and in written form for safety purposes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The normal setting for this position is a maintenance and repairs shop, which is open to the external environment, loud and dusty. May have exposure in all seasonal weather conditions, including heat, snow, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) associated with working in this type of environment.
