Milton CAT is seeking an experienced Earthmoving Field Service Technician. Technicians are responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul and maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and components. Depending on the location and assignment, the technician will be responsible for some or all of the functions and duties listed below. These repairs may require working hours in addition to the normal work schedule for emergency calls or routine service as required. Flexibility and in-depth product knowledge are necessary for this position.
Pay Rate: Starting wage $37.43-$40.69 per hour based on location and experience. This is a union position.

Responsibilities
Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts.
Identify the problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps.
Determines reusability of parts in accordance with published Caterpillar reusability guidelines.
Orders replacement parts ensuring that parts ordered are correct and complete at time of order.
Cleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components.
Tests, measures, and adjusts engine and machine systems and components.
Prepares, inspects and operates machines prior to delivery.
Keeps up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.
Prepares inspection and appraisal reports.
Prepares accurate and complete service reports timely.
Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times adhering to company policy.
Flexible to work after hours when needed to meet customer needs.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.
High school diploma or (GED) equivalent.
Three years experience as an Earthmoving Shop Technician working with heavy equipment.
Experience on CAT heavy equipment or similar equipment.
Proficient in mechanical systems (transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.).
Ability to diagnose and repair CAT heavy equipment and components in the field.
DOT and MSHA certifications required.
Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.).
Strong problem solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to operate a service vehicle.
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Strong math skills.
Able to lift more than 50 pounds.
Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
Ability to work in the field without supervision.
Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast paced service environment.
Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks.
Heavy equipment service/maintenance knowledge.
Must have a safe working record.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
Associates degree in a related field is preferred.
CDL License.

A day in the life
You start your morning in a company-provided vehicle, route set for customer sites across the Virginia Beach/Fredericksburg area. Responsibilities
Inspect, service, and repair a wide variety of rental equipment in the field ensuring that units are operating as per Milton Rents and OEM standards & specifications
Diagnose, service and repair hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drive components, diesel engines, and other mechanical systems.
Reports daily to the service manager and branch manager with workflow and schedule.
Ability to be dispatched from remote locations or from home base.
Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work in remote areas.
Extensive experience with construction rental equipment or heavy machinery.
Positively and effectively interact with customers, fellow employees, management, and equipment manufacturers.
Uphold safety practices and standards as set forth by Milton Rents & Milton CAT
Works in the local shop environment when not on the road.
Maintain accurate records as it relates to repair orders, parts ordering, and time keeping.
Be efficient and thorough with all repairs and rental check-in.
Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked service truck.
Maintain and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Complete and submit all paperwork required by shop management in the requested timeframes.
Qualifications
High-school diploma or GED is required.
5+ years of verifiable experience in the construction rental or heavy equipment industry preferred.
Valid Driver License with Valid medical card or ability to pass a DOT physical exam.
Knowledge of safe operation of Construction Rental Equipment.
Able to work indoors, outdoors, and longer hours (which includes OT) in various weather conditions.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computers skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; proficient in mechanical systems (transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.)
Able to lift 30 lbs. regularly, and occasionally up to 80 pounds independently or with assistance.
Must have own tools.
