You get paid.
It will always be less than market rate and they will conjure some excuse during the interview about not meeting some abstract "requirement" for the job that is not actually listed and simply beyond the bounds of professional normality.
The pizza and beer that they think makes up for non-stellar pay and bargain basement benefits.
That even the very inarticulate and clueless can make it in America.
Leave and find a company with a culture that is actually decent.
Unless you're lying about your coding skills on your LinkedIn profile, zero preparation needed. And only their client hiring manager will be able to determine if that is the case, as the slimy Mindex recruiter is basically searching LinkedIn, Indeed, and GlassDoor for people with the skills the client asks for, and don't seem to understand the actual positions.
They will try to lowball. Prepare to walk when they offer your current salary or less AND don't forget their benefits will almost always be lesser. Don't believe the promises of a raise/title change after helping a client through a heavy lift project; it's just a ruse.
The industry is what it is, but I'm sure it's as hollow as the rest of their promises.
Getting out of there months after I started when they clearly had no intention of rewarding me for that client "heavy lift" project that I joined in an already screwed up state due to high turnover.
