The successful candidate will perform geotechnical design tasks and field work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer and/or professional geologist. Essential Duties: Perform geotechnical engineering assignments involving investigations and designs for a variety of facilities including, but not limited to: foundations for transmission lines, buildings, bridges, retaining walls and other structures; designs for natural gas pipelines and compressor stations; and design of residual waste landfills and impoundments. Prepare geotechnical engineering designs involving: Rock/soil slope stability Cut slope and fill embankment design Landslide stabilization (reinforcement with rock anchors/ soil nails, GRS slopes) Geotechnical field instrumentation Soil reinforcement and ground improvement techniques (CMCs, compaction grouting, stone columns) Sheet pile/retaining walls (gravity walls, soldier pile and lagging walls, MSE walls, T-walls) Shallow and deep foundations (spread footings, driven piles, augered cast-in-place piles, helical piles, micropiles, drilled shafts). Develop subsurface investigations, monitoring programs, and coordinate geologic site characterization for a variety of facilities mentioned above Installations of geotechnical field instrumentation Selection of samples for laboratory testing. Prepare proposals, budgets, schedules, calculations, specifications and reports. Geotechnical Investigation and Construction Support Services including, but not limited to: Test boring monitoring and logging Site reconnaissance Foundation and retaining structure construction monitoring and inspection. The individual will be responsible for interpreting specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on construction excavations, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils. Perform site inspections at various power facilities and associated sites. Site inspections may be daily, weekly, monthly, or annual. Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections. Travel can be expected in the form of fieldwork, which can be daily local travel or weekly out-of-town travel primarily in the mid-west and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Experience representing mineral owners/operators in lease and royalty negotiations, surface use agreements, right-of-way, and regulatory processes (permit packages, NEPA/NHPA touchpoints), coordinating with legal, environmental, and governmental stakeholders. Track record of executive-level presentations and clear decision memos for senior stakeholders (boards, Tribal leadership, investors, agencies), translating technical trade-offs and risk mitigations into actionable recommendations. Supervisory/mentoring experience directing junior engineers/consultants and multi-disciplinary teams; establishing work plans, QA/QC of designs and calculations, and fostering safety-first culture. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. We are seeking full-time, experienced Plan Check Engineer / ICC Plans Examiner for our jurisdictional clients within California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. Responsibilities Review plans, calculations and specifications for compliance with the most current adopted ordinances, laws, and state building codes. Preparation of plans review comment letter according to municipality direction and SCA standards. Meet and confer with the clients as-needed (via phone, email, virtual meeting or in-person) to clarify plan check comments. Job requirements Minimum Qualifications Professional Civil or Structural Engineer ICC Certified Plans Examiner with complete knowledge and full understanding of the International model building codes and standard construction methods. Ability to review all structural systems and additional building systems as needed (i.e., architectural, accessibility, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, and green/sustainability) Minimum 2 years of experience working for an engineering design firm or alternatively 2 (or more) years working as a Plan Check Engineer for a jurisdiction providing design or plan check reviews for both commercial and residential project types. Basic computer knowledge related to Microsoft Office products and various plan review software such as BlueBeam (or similar AutoCad based products). Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited college. Must have a valid US Driver's License. Must successfully complete standard background investigation. All done! Derive and maintain performance metrics (e.g., wait time, idle miles, fairness, stability). Analyze fleet utilization, imbalance, and throughput to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies. Conduct what-if studies using simulated origin/destination demand matrices, travel times, and network layouts to stress-test load-balancing strategies.
