Role Description: The Product Safety Manager will work cross-functionally with Operations, Business Stakeholders, Legal, and the Merchant Success teams. This person should be able to successfully operate with high autonomy, both strategically and tactically. The Product Safety Manager is required to be aware of the requirements, regulations and developments/best practices as related to regulatory compliance, quality assurance and product/food safety as it applies to the food and other consumable products in the distribution industry. The position is responsible for ensuring that the processes, procedures, documentation, and training are adequate to maintain regulatory compliance and product/food safety and quality from receiving through delivery. This role will be expected to provide hands-on leadership, support, program development, and training to field personnel and will operate as the primary contact. It is essential to have technical knowledge, interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and guide change. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Product Safety, who also serves as the backup for this role. What you'll do: Implement operational site programs and processes for receipt, storage, transportation, and disposal of food and other applicable consumable products (as needed) to ensure customer safety, regulatory compliance and customer success. Develop and enhance Product/Food Safety & Compliance Operations programs for existing and emerging businesses. Write policies, standards for existing and emerging businesses; create and implement training programs to deliver regulatory compliance execution at the site & network level. Conduct a risk assessment and develop a road map for operational processes, design and execute compliance and product safety interventions, leverage auditing mechanisms, and analyze regulatory impacts of business models. Enable scalable business solutions. Work independently with Site and Regional Ops Leadership to ensure product/food safety and compliance to the regulatory and customer requirements. Develop business metrics to track compliance and process effectiveness; using data to identify compliance trends. Continuously identify and communicate improvement opportunities. Provide 24x7 support to field operations for issues involving the food safety and/or inventory, receiving and merchant systems. Leads the development, maintenance, and execution of the product safety and quality management system across all sites. Oversees internal audit programs, training, recall coordination, and the continual improvement of systems to ensure product safety, legality, and regulatory compliance. Other duties/responsibilities as necessary. What you'll bring to the table: Requires 30%-40% travel. Bachelor's degree in food science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology, or related field. 5+ years of experience managing Product/Food Safety, Compliance and Quality in a large-scale distribution, retail, grocery, food service, or manufacturing environment. Knowledge of Product safety regulations (local, state, FDA, USDA). Certified Professional-Food Safety, Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Sanitarian, PCQI. HACCP plan development experience (basic and/or advanced HACCP training).
